Get a button wrench.

Introducing The Tone Ledger, a premium 5x7 inch, 100 pg notebook designed for guitarists, bassists, keyboardists...pretty much anyone who enjoys using amps and pedals. Great for experienced musicians, hobbyists, or students just getting started.

sometimes those things are really difficult to get loose.

a button wrench would probably be helpful.

yep, I made sure that I ordered a button wrench when I placed my order earlier this week. They are pretty cheap too, so totally worth it.

If they're really tight, watch out.  Some idiot/body may have put glue on them, and going all torque happy on them with a wrench can crack the nut.  Cola is also a pretty amazing glue.  This happened to me on a beatmaniaIIDX.  You don't want to crack your nuts.

My X-Arcade Tankstick had some blue glue on the threds "locktite-style". I cracked the glue with a small pipe-wrench called Poly-Grip in Sweden.
It looks something like this...
