Wells Gardner K7197 white spot on switching off
« on: August 29, 2009, 09:27:52 am »
hi, I installed a refurbished K7100 board in my factory mortal kombat 2 arcade monitor, and on switching off, there is a big white spot that fades after a few seconds.  what can be the fault?  i attached a linked on you tube, and i appreciate any help.

also, at the corners, it looses focus and the test grid does not remain a straight line in the corners, and colours get spit

thats total loss of deflection coupled with focus problems i would say flyback is faulty but first check for bad solder joints on the yoke plug
hopefully its not something with the  yoke or crt

the white spot looks like a total failure of both vertical and horizontal deflection, only times i have seen that are when the yoke plug has been disconnected
so the next thing to do is trace how the deflection is done on that chassis but my guess is that the flyback is failing-i could be wrong though

I posted  a reply on your KLOV thread, but here's my take on it here.

The white spot in the middle when you cut the power is the caps on the board discharging.  Since the yoke is no longer directing the electron beams, the only place for them to go is right in the middle.

Most older televisions sets I've seen do exactly this.

As for the other problems, sounds like it's a minor convergence issue.  Level42 has a video about fixing such issues.  I think it's in the FAQ.
