Project64 and ArcadeVGA. Can someone help me please?
« on: September 07, 2009, 03:05:34 pm »
Can someone who is successfully running Project64 with ArcadeVGA on Vista please post up your audio and video settings for me? There are so many dif video drivers to choose from and I don't know which one to use. I am able to get them working but just not efficiently across the board (ie. one will work well with Mario 64 but not with 007, etc).

So much of it is guess and check, just thought someone who's got it right may be able to help me. ThAnks!

Anyone please?

Works like a charm on Mario 64 right now but no love at all on 007. It's all over the place  :banghead:

WHat res are you trying to run? If you are using the ArcadeVGA with a low res monitor then most of the stuff for the 64 is gonna look like crap or not at all, because they were ment to be run at a whole lot higher res. Just my opinion.

Where did you get this information from?  The maximum resolution was 640x480 which most low res monitors can do and tri-synchs easily.  However, the majority of N64 games were actually coded in much lower resolutions -> 320x240/320x260/400x300/480x360 etc  The N64 was designed with an SDTV in mind after all...

Compatability of Project64 drivers will vary from game to game as will the resolutions...trial and error are the best for resolutions but for drivers most of this is covered on N64 compatability websites.

As always thank you Epyx!

This gives me a place to start and at least I know I'm not overlooking something obvious. Not familiar with the compatibility sites. Can you provide a link?

OK Epyx. Did a bit of research. Is it true for me to say that many games are not yet fully emulated on 64? Seems that there a plenty that are not working according to the lists I dug up with Google.

Didn't realize there were so many issues with some of those games...

Most games will work fine.  You will want to go to this link as it is probably the best for everything you need setting/config wise and compatability:

http://bmgcl.emuxhaven.net/n64mgcl/N64ConfigList.htm

It provides settings/status for each game under the emulator.  Most of the popular titles work just fine.  I'm at work right now but thinking of what I have on my cab (and they all work perfectly):

Waverace
Rayman 2 The Great Escape
Mario 64
Starfox 64
Bomberman Hero
Wipeout 64
Rampage World Tour
Paperboy 64
Mario Kart 64
F-Zero X

All of those (and some more ive probably forgotten) are listed on that link as working perfectly and I certainly have had no issues with them plus they are great cab friendly games...

That link helps a great deal! So basically there are dif drivers that work for dif games. OK, I'll give it a shot!!

To clarify, what res would you suggest for this emulator?

I personally run the emulator at mostly 640x480 (N64 Maximum) with AA/AF at about 4x...2d older games I like the accuracy of the CRT for blending but the N64 was primarily 3D so I like to benefit from the 3D technology to make the games look better.  It will still look fine at lower resolutions as  that would have been the native resolution of many games (320x240 etc).

As for the drivers yes, different drivers will improve/decrease compatability with games...just use that link's list as a guideline. However, I find that Jabo's D3D 1.6 is the most compatible video driver.  You will see some glide video drivers...for most of them you can just substitute the D3D 1.6 driver as the glide was the old Monster 3DFX API.
