Jrok v4.1 Encoder problems
« on: August 21, 2009, 07:35:21 pm »
hey guys I'm using a jrok video encoder v4.1 (component only) and having problems with Technos boards

i have 2 technos boards Renegade & Combatribes and both video is not working.  I tried on 3 different tvs (Benq W500 Projector, Samsung LCD tv, and a Sony Bravia LCD TV) all have no screen except the Sony Bravia does flicker the screen twice and I see the game for like 2 seconds.  I can make the game flicker twice by selecting the input on the tv to component (where the video encoder is hooked up to) or when I change tv settings back and forth like Video mode to wide and normal it will flicker and show the screen then go black.

anybody have issues like this with encoders?

It sounds like those games might be running in a refresh rate that your televisions don't support.  Some arcade games ran in strange refresh rates like 53hz or so.

Combatribes runs in 57hz.  MAWS says Renegade runs in 60hz, but I see other 240x240 games in the database running at 57hz, so that may be a typo.

I bet your HDTV's will only sync to exactly 60hz, and shows a "no signal" screen otherwise.

Have you tried connecting this to a standard CRT?  Old CRT's are much more flexible in what ranges they allowed and it's possible it will display fine on a standard CRT.

thanks for the info.  I tried out a different video encoder yesterday.  this one outputs to vga and its working great.  combatribes works perfect now.

also awaiting on a sync cleaner from jrok and will test the sync cleaner and jrok encoder again.
