Advmenu - game lists?
« on: August 20, 2009, 05:42:39 am »
Maybe I'm missing something obvious here but I can't seem to figure out how to make game lists with advmenu.

Advmenu automatically created a config file with all this kind of stuff in it:

Code: [Select]
group "Very Good"
group "Good"
group "Bad"
group "<undefined>"
type "Computer"
type "Console"
type "Application"
type "Arcade"
type "Shot 'em Up"
type "Bet 'em Up"
type "Fight"
type "Gun"
type "Puzzle"
type "RPG"
type "Sport"
type "Breakout"
type "Filler"
type "Racing"
type "Flipper"
type "<undefined>"

When I use the menu and go into those lists they are all empty. I can manually add games to the lists so for now I deleted all of those "types" and just made one called "favourites" which I add games to. This produced another strange thing - I now seem to have 3 lists. I have the full list, my favourites and a full list without the ones I have added to my favourites. It's making me a bit confused and I can't find an explanation online.

Another problem I'm having is that every time I edit advmenu.rc my favourites list empties.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong here, am I really supposed to fill those lists manually?

Ask Alien_Mame - here, at MW, or pete's-emulation. He's a super fan of that FE.

yep, that seems to be the normal behavior.

check your "config" settings regarding advmenu not saving settings. mine is set to "config save_at_exit".

Thanks for the suggestions. Seems odd that it sets up all those "types" but doesn't populate them.

I'll try to get hold of Alien_Mame and see what he says.

you have to populate them yourself. advmenu is not just for mame. if you want, you can use CATVER.INI.

http://www.progettoemma.net/?catlist

then lookup these keywords in the advmenu.txt helpfile.

group_import
type_import
desc_import
info_import
sort

Code: [Select]

use "info_import " then sort according to the preferred "info" of the catver.ini

---- 5.1.6 sort ----
Selects the sort order of the games displayed.

[EMULATOR/]sort parent | name | time | play | year | manufacturer | type | group | size | resolution | info
