Daphne 1.0 Setup Issues - Help Please...
« on: July 29, 2009, 09:46:22 pm »
I finally got Daphne up and running. I'm using Loader v1.0 on Vista 64 w/ an ArcadeVGA. Works just fine as long as I have OpenGL selected (otherwise I get a black screen; sound only) except for one very annoying issue:

When I enable full screen mode it gives me an error: "no video mode large enough for 640x480" and won't load the game at all!

Got to be a driver issue right? I'm scared to know the answer...

Well I wrote to soon. The full screen issue is one problem. The other problem is that the game hauls ass! lol I mean really hauls!

The boot-up screens go by VERY fast. I am then able to enter two coins w/ the 5 key and start with the 1 key. At this time I seem to catch like 4-8 seconds of each clip. I am not able to control anything it just skips right along to the next movie every 5 seconds or so.

Oh yea, whenever I click change under the 'input' tab while configuring at the Loader GUI I get an error "input_grabber.exe has stopped working."

I'll search this out but any help is appreciated.

I don't use an arcadeVGA so I'm affraid I can't help with the resolution problem. You might want to contact the the place you purchased it from for assistance with that. I'm also not 100% sure about your "Speed" problem in Daphne. If I remember correctly, I think Daphne runs through all of the mpegs and creates it's own files to go along with them when the program runs the first time. Does this speed problem occur everytime you run the game? Have you let it run to see if it auto corrects itself? Let us know  ;)

OK, I'll email Andy @ Ultimarc about the fullscreen issue as its prob driver related.

In terms of the game hauling, yes, it happens every time. I get a few seconds of the clip and then it bounces to the next clip. Occasionally in between clips I'll see a parsing status bar for a second. It goes from clip to clip and I can't control anything.

I think I need to take this to the Daphne board. Not sure if there are compatibility probs with Daphne and Vista x64 maybe?

Thanks for taking a second. Also, I'll post up a link to my thread on the Daphne board if I do that.

A quick search at the Daphne board said that you must allow the loader to update itself which i did not. I'll update and then check back. This should fix ALOT of probs hopefully.  ;D

Well I left it update itself but only the loader updated. The version of Daphne remained the same @ v1.

I'd really like to just get the game to play right and worry about the driver issue later. Would someone be willing to post the command line that works for them to launch Dragons Lair?

This may be useful to sort out the proper options.

OK, well the prob was a bad rom file. A friend sent me his command line and that set me straight. Also, working very well within Hyperspin FE.

So the only prob I'm left with at this point is the full screen issue. Going to email Andy @ Ultimarc, maybe he can shed some light...

Thank you Section

Thank you Section

Not a problem bud!!

I'm glad you got it somewhat straightened out. The laser disk games are great to have for an occasional game or two  ;)
