MAMEUI 32
« on: July 21, 2009, 12:00:39 pm »
I am new here and had a few questions. I had mameui32 running fine an the little one was playing and fell. As she was falling She pulled on the joystick and the control panel was open and slammed HARD. Ever since I havent been able to get 2 buttons two work. I go into windows with notepad and it is showing them as working. but in the mame program it doesnt. I went to restore all settings and it still doesnt work. Any ideas or suggestions? I am at my wits end. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks   Rod

I can think of two possibilities.  First is to make sure your reset the input mapping (since you didn't meanition on how you reset the settings).  The quickest way is to delete the cfg folder, but you can also just delete the default.cfg file in that folder.  (You might want to back it up first if you remapped anything intentionally.)

If that doesn't help, your two buttons' wiring might be lose, and doesn't stay down long enough for mame to see.  If you hold either of them down in notepad, does it act like the other, working, buttons?

I tried all that and still cant get it to work. In note pad it acts like all other keys. Ive even ran it through winipac 1.2 it shows it as working. I hooked a keyboard to it and pressed all the buttons and all is working except block and low kick.(Im trying to play mortal kombat 3 and street fighter 2) it is mapped to i and k in winipac. In the middle of a game I pressed i and k and it doesnt work on the keyboard either, but in notepad i and k work as well. It has to be in the mameui32. I dont want to delete it and start over but maybe I have to??

... doesnt work on the keyboard either....

Okay, you say you mapped in winipac; have you remapped mame to match your key presses?  If mame doesn't know that those buttons are sending I and K, mame won't react.

I'd remap all of mame's games.  To remap in mame/mameUI, start a game, press tab (assuming you didn't remap UI_Configure), select "Input (general)", select whichever player you want the buttons for, go to the button number number, press enter, press the button you want, (repeat last three steps for each button). esc back to game.
