Dual - seamless LCD monitors?
« on: July 16, 2009, 06:13:55 pm »
This crazy idea came to me, but what about 2 widescreen LCD's places on top of each other?

I'm thinking it wouldn't  be as good as my mind wants it to be but it's an idea, still....

I know many people build arcades with proper monitors to relive the old times etc etc and I wouldn't mind doing that as well.....but the LCD just looks so damn clear.

I wish I could find a 25'' 4:3 monitor but I don't think they've ever existed.

I currently have a dynamo Street Fighter Cab that used to house a 25'' CRT arcade monitor.

Are there any other alternatives to this?

CRT pros
nostalgiac and proper arcade feel.

cons
heavy
old
not as clear
not LCD

Thank you in advance.

A CRT screen has a smaller usable diagonal than the size of the tube. That 25" CRT is probably comparable to a 22"or 23" LCD (if those actually existed).

---fudgesicle--- ---fudgesicle--- ---fudgesicle---, figs the tab sequence, lol.

Anyways I'll retype again.

I use a 19'' 4:3 LCD and it's okay(not big enough like 24.5 arcade monitor).

I could buy a 25'' 16:9/10 LCD and put it vertical in the cab but then the horiztonal games won't look very good.

So this is my impasse currently.

Do I just get the arcade monitor for the big images or get an LCD which is cheaper/easier to replace blah blah blah

I thought about this a long time ago, but feared the seam would be too noticeable. I'm waiting for someone to prove me wrong...

I use a 26 inch 16:10 LCD, and that's about the same visible area as a 24 inch 4:3 CRT and slight less than 19 inch vertical (but most vertical 19 inch screens were mounted deep in the cabinet).

Can you give me the dimensions?

Suzo Happ has a 26'' LCD I can use.

24.8 arcade monitor is about 23.00 wide x 20.63 tall.

And the suzo 26lcd is 22.67 wide x 12.77 tall.

It's not a horrible difference but you lose almost 8 inches of height.

Is yours similar to the one sold on happcontrols.com?

I really would love to fill nearly the WHOLE void with screen lol.  I love big screens.

Just made the plunge.

I ordered a W2753V-PF - it's an LG 27'' monitor.

Should be a tight fit width wise but has decent demensions without stand:

Set without stand (WxHxD)25.7” x 18.6” x 3.5”

So it's fairly close to an arcade monitor and I'll figure out if I want it vertical or horizontal.

I can't wait for it to come in.

Nice! are you planning on mounting it the way it is or taking apart and putting just the screen up?

I'm not 100% certain yet.  I'm thinking I'll have to take off the bezel to make it fit anyhow but maybe there's a way that I can get it to rotate(but I doubt it).

It's still not as tall as an arcade monitor but it'll have to do.

It's also more expensive hahah, so maybe I'm a fool.

Either way it'll be large and crisp and I can play some horizontally wide games, too :)

Can you give me the dimensions?
It is 551x344mm (21.7 x 13.5 inch) visible.
The 19 inch screens were like 366mm (14.4 inch) vertical (visible picture). So that is about 1 inch less.
Guess the Happ is a 16:9 screen, those are 324mm (12.8 inch) tall.

24.8 arcade monitor is about 23.00 wide x 20.63 tall.
That is the worst ever application of Pythagoras law  ;D!
A 24.8 inch arcade monitor with 24 inch visible image means a 488x366 mm picture (19.2 x 14.4 inch). Exact the same a 19 inch monitors mount vertical.

The W2753V-PF  is 16:9 as well, so 336 mm tall (13.2 inch), and it is TN, so not the best viewing angles.
It is also not the fastest (problem of all >23 inch TN displays), with a 22ms lag.
Here you can see the measurements of its European cousin:
http://www.digitalversus.com/duels.php?ty=6&ma1=35&mo1=464&p1=4589&ma2=322&ph=12

So it's fairly close to an arcade monitor and I'll figure out if I want it vertical or horizontal.
It's TN, so vertical is no option.

You're saying it should be 14.4 inch but the screen itself is 20.63 tall at the edges of the tube.  I don't see how it can be 14.4 inch viewable.

Doesn't make too much sense but I understand the math you're referring to.  Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me lol.

Measure the diagonal then. Can't be 24.8 inch. That one must be larger, more like 31 inch diagonal then.

I must have incorporated the mounting hardware into that height :(.

Anyways, I cancelled the order on the monitor and will wait until I do more research.

I will try to never order something that's $400 when I'm really tired haha.
