Do my Wii games rock ? ADVICE PLEASE !!

Hey,

I've just purchased a Wii for my 6 year old daughter.  I'll be the 2nd player.   

Its a package deal that comes with 35 games, which I can choose from the following list.

Are there any stand-out titles that rock ?

How about any that suck ?   

I'm looking forward to trying out the Hard Drive mod.  Are any of these games incompatible with being loaded onto it ?

I honestly don't think I'd want 15 of these listed games.  The only reason I'd take 35 is to resell a vast majority of them. 

I imagine others will suggest:

Mario Strikers Charged

There are others that other people will suggest, but I don't want to try and spend time guessing which.  Bottom line is, if you're getting 35 games off that list, quite a few of them will be like scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I personally only actually OWNED MP3 Corruption.  I've DLed MP8, Mario Strikers, and had Big Brain Academy as part of the Craigslist lot I bought to replace my stolen Wii.

All games should work on the USBLoader GX.  Depending on which revision of cIOS you use, you'll either need to enable the 002 fix, or keep it disabled.  rev13 has them all enabled just about.  Rev10 has only 2 of the 25 I have on the HDD need that option enabled.  Thus I prefer rev10.

the only one of those i have is metal slug. I like it but some people arent happy that there isnt any new content. I hear Red Steel is disappointing, but that the sequel will rock (it will use the motion plus). Excite Truck is one that people seem to love or hate. I'm thinking of getting it as it sounds like my kind of racer.

Of those games I liked the shooters: Call of Duty 3, Resident Evil and Metroid Prime (although I got bored with it after a while)

My kid (6 year old boy) loves Excite Truck (one of my favorites too), Barnyard, bee movie game and Chicken Little (although I had to help him with it back then) of things not on your list he likes the Lego games (Lego Batman mostly)

My GF loves Kororinpa and Rayman Raving Rabbids


I'm one of the people who loves Excite truck. It's the only game I still play on the Wii. It's insane, it's fast, it's fun, but it can get quite difficult. I still can't get all the stunts repeated all the time. I probably don't play it enough though. Although I finished all events. I just have to get an S on a few more of the last levels.

Now they have Excitebots. I haven't seen it anywhere in stores though. Looks like a nice successor to Excite Truck.

Of the newer games I like the Boom Blox (haven't tried the successor yet), the Pikmin games (maybe not really new, but new control) and Punch-Out!!  People who like soccer or golf apparently have good new games too.

Unfortunately, the sale fell through, so I'm still on the lookout for my daughter's Wii.  Maybe I'll buy a retail unit, or a cheap one off e-bay with no games, and get the games later.

The deal (with all the games) sounded too good to be true.  I smelt a rat.  So I outlined exactly what I was expecting to receive for my money (based on what the seller had advertised), and insisted the seller provide their confirmation, prior to my PayPal payment.

The seller finally admitted the Wii, which they had advertised as PAL format, was actually an imported Japanese Wii (they had NOT disclosed this in the item description).

I've never heard of a PAL Japanese Wii.   

That sounded dubious to me, so I sent them packing.  The seller mentioned they're now going to offer this dud as a "second chance offer" to the next highest bidder.

It looks more like a rather old list (from the first year after the Wii was released). I'd say it has all the top games of that time.

To be honest my list looks like that too. I bought a lot of games at the start, but got fed up after being quickly disappointed by every game. Now I "try the games out" first.

A more recent list should probably include things like:

Yeah, kinda what I was guessing, too...

My assumption was that if the package deal includes 35 games, obviously there wasn't enough good material in that list to fill it out.  There's no sense in saying "I only want 15-20 games" when you can get 35.  Thus my comment that I would take the remainder of the 35, then sell them all.

A couple other really good Wii games I haven't seen mentioned yet is Zelda, No More Heroes (definately not for little kids), and Super Paper Mario.

I've only played Super Paper Mario out of those three, but I thought it was great. 

Wii Sports Resort is a lot of fun too.  PBJ's thread helped me get it going very easily.

Have you enjoyed any Zeldas at all?  If not, it may just not be your cup of tea.  You'd be part of the minority on that one though.

It's the first Zelda I tried. Indeed it was the top rated game on Metacritics at the time I bought it (probably still is), so sure I'm the odd one out. I found it boring and gave up quite quickly.

Felt like going to work to me.  You entered a new area and had to find the seven magical gumdrops and then find the three fairies and then enter the dungeon and flip five switches.  Not fun at all, and the Gamecube version actually controlled a little better.

On a more serious note: Zelda games (and the ilk) are more based on story and exploration than on just mashing buttons and jumping around like ..IDK.. say SF2. I am willing to wager that PeanutButter&Jelly above wouldn't find a game like DreamFall any fun either. Meh, diff'rent strokes for different fast food customers.

Well I'm with pbj on this. It's like work, but let me add "boring" work. For the same reason I don't like Sims either.

Driving a race car, being a superhero saving the world, directing armed forces in a global war and such, all may be considered "work" too, but the challenge is fun or cool.

Wii Play (mine loves it)
Wii Sports (you'll be surprised how quickly she kicks your behind in Tennis)
Mario Party 8
Sonic and the Secret Rings (has a party game as part of it that might actually be more fun than Mario Party at times)
Punch Out (ever been beaten by a 6 year old at that? It kinda sucks, but what the hey)
Lego Indiana Jones and / or Lego Batman
Wario Ware: Smooth Moves (I believe thats the title, don't have it in front of me right now) - also a "party" game

Regarding the lego series, my god, my wife and I bought Lego Indiana Jones for us to play together.  Forget that; my kid is absolutely obesessed with both games, but especially Indiana Jones. She's the only reason I've seen as much of the game as I have; she and I, or she and Mom, can easily spend 2-3 hours at a time at that.  Same with Batman.

My six year old likes to watch me play Zelda: Twilight Princess.  She wants very badly to see RE 4 and others like it, but Mom and I have both agreed those are a "not yet" type of game.

Amazing. Like I said, my 6 year old boy is crazy about these games too. More Lego Batman though (he likes the villains). Haven't tried Lego Star Wars yet.

I guess it's a combination of it being based on toys and the fact that it is a pretty easy game. With other games I often have to help him (if only to read things), but he can play the Lego games on his own. Only rarely do I need to help him finish a level.

Although he likes the co-op game play too. I guard his back while he solves the levels.

Anyway... no one seemed to mention the selection of games on WiiWare and Virtual Console.   I think the revamped Dr. Mario download was the best $10 I ever spent, Mega Man 9 is so viciously hard that it's actually fun, World of Goo is getting praise, the Strong Bad Point & Click games are a blast, etc, etc, etc.   At any rate, I've killed entire days playing nothing but the downloaded games from the Nintendo store.
