Distance from front glass to Monitor or LCD screen?
« on: July 10, 2009, 02:55:58 am »
Found several threads discussing glass or plexi / acrylic , smoked or not smoked but I couldn't find anything about the distance between the monitor and glass.  I've played on some cabs that had the monitor well behind the glass.  It was MANY years ago when I was in my late teens but the monitor seemed to be a foot or so behind the glass.  Or maybe it was the glass placed straight up and down and the monitor was angled back.  Either way it was very noticeable and almost to the point of annoying thinking back about it.  Distracting at the least.  I know I don't want to have the glass that far out in front of the monitor.

What is the typical distance between the glass and the monitor.  My situation is a 32" LCD.  Would it be closer the better?  Or is there a point of too close?  With the lip of the LCD housing it could be as close as 1/8" to the screen I'm guessing.  That is if it rested right up against it.

I'm also considering the WG 9800 as the monitor.  Any difference in the distance for this?

Been lurking and visiting the forum almost daily for well over a year and can't wait to start my build.  So many great projects I've taken ideas from.  Moving into a bigger home and I'm excited the wife is happy to make the bonus room a game room.  Who would have thought?    to all the gaming ladies out there.

I actually have the same question.  I'm thinking about the WG D9800, and I'm trying to figure out how close it would need to be to the smoked glass to maintain the best image?

I'm also considering getting the plastic bezel that Xgaming offers, but it looks like, even though it's a flat screen monitor, the bezel is recessed quite a bit.  I don't want to lose too much brightness, and I'm guessing that the brightness is reduced pretty quickly the further the screen is away from the glass.

You guys that are using flat screen CRTs, how is your cab configured with regards to the bezel, monitor and glass?
