Author Topic: Split screen on Arcade Monitor (Read 5858 times)

First off , I was readin alot on here .. did diff things and still i am gettin a slip screen ..
I got a mortal kombat 3 arcade

video card brand : IntelR
t.v model is 25k7193
I got a J-PAC to hook up mame to it .. i did all of the jumpers 15 and 31

1. I tested out the Soft 15khz and that didnt work for me ...
2. I tested Powerstrip with 640x480 resolution and now I got a slip screen

am i missing something on windows xp or something .. if anyone can help , thankyou ...

You are still putting out 31khz....... needs to be 15khz and a lower resolution.

640x480 resolution and now I got a slip screen . Do i have to go lower then that ?

I am having the exact same problem.

I am running soft15 through a JPAC interface. Soft15 has installed OK, and I can run my arcade monitor at 640x240 no problems, but when I select 640x480 I get the exact same problem.

It is NOT because I am sending a 31Khz signal, the JPAC sync light is active, informing me that it is recieving a 15KHz signal.

Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong? why can't I get 640x480 interlaced working. MIght it be my monitor doesn't support it (It's a hantarex polo 20")?

No, you ARE running 31khz... that LED will light up as long as the JPAC is OUTPUTTING a proper sync, which it is doing and why you see 2 screens.

Here's a quote from the Ultimarc site:

Bottom line is you need to properly configure SOFT15KHZ or get an ArcadeVGA video card. Nothing else will fix this problem... and that's the answer for both of you folks...

I am not using soft15khz , I am using Powerstrip,

Then powerstrip isn't properly configured. The bottom line my friend is that you're still pumping 31khz in to the JPAC...

I am unfamiliar with powerstrip so i can't help you there, but there is a big sticky here on this forum. I use soft15khz and at least with me it was pretty much run and go...

say if i buy a vga card .. that is the only thing i need and it will do the job..... fix my screen .. i dont have to mess with 15khz and 31 khz then ... or mame...
You are sayin .. VGA CARD will fix everything ..in one shot .....

If i got it on the screen, and it is slip ... that has to be a way to fix becuase i have it on the screen and its not right ,, but there should be a way ...., and not go out and buy a new video card....

what mame should i use to run mameplus for it ....

Now ya'll are starting to get the idea.
An "arcade" monitor i.e. a CGA monitor has a maximum capability to work with.

For instance on the 25K7193 the other fella has.

Graphics modes: 640 X 200

They have limitations........period.

So what tends to happen is people will slap 640x480 up there thinking that is LOW, but in all actually you're still sending DOUBLE the horizontal that the monitor is native capable of. (the 480 part)
DOUBLE the resolution - DOUBLE image. (more or less anyways)
31khz is nearly DOUBLE 15khz - DOUBLE image. (more or less anyways)
Too high a resolution is just gonna make it wonky regardless of what you try.....except for going LOWER.
Kinda get the idea here?

The question is: does the video chipset in this machine support a proper 15KHz? The PC I'm typing on right now "technically" supports 15KHz, but even with tweaking I couldn't get it to display correctly. Now it's my wife's PC.

I have to look in the booklet .. to see if it is a proper 15khz ..
why do you have the samething ?

I should go with 640x200 then ..to see if that does it ..

FrizzleFried - you mention "properly configuring" soft15. As far as I can tell, you just install it. I don't think there's any additional configuration (is there?)

I'm using a Nvidia 6600GT, which i believe is on the supported list for soft15, but maybe it doesn't quite work properly? It works at 640x240, but maybe it doesn't provide an interlaced signal at 640x480??

Any more help would be appreciated, I'm close to giving up. But I would at least like to know WHY I can't get this working.

(Please don't patronise me by telling me to "read the wiki" or something. I've read everything I can find)

Kevin was wrong about your monitor not supporting 640x480... it does... in interlaced mode (as opposed to progressive). I am not sure why you're having issues at 640x480, I'd suggest you read through the Soft15KHZ thread.

I know I have issues at certain resolutions that ArcadeVGA had no problem supporting...

Ah .... see, I didn't know about the Hantarex capabilities and I simply don't get into it all that deep for the mame stuff.
(interlaced, progressive, yada, yada)
My point being is that was where they needed to look.
Hope they can both get it situated.

i am getting a full screen now and , its goin up and down willy fast ...heheheh

this is at 640x480i ...... this is killin me ..

I have someone on my computer , logmein .. fixing it for me ..now .. they cant get it to work ..yet ..

There is Two Green lights on the J-PAC chip now .. is that good or bad

Yes, as with ANY true arcade monitor you will have to expect to do some "physical" adjustments on the monitors itself.

i.e. - All those knobs and things you find on the backside of the monitor.

Yeah, I didn't think to mention the remote board if you have one.

Definitely getting closer.... one thing to keep in mind is don't get stuck judging it by how "Windows" looks, take a look at your FE and games and such as well.

Looks like your H and V positions are off a little bit. Sometimes if the screen is over to one side too much you'll get that transparent overlaying effect.
