This is a variation on the post I made a few weeks ago. I have a Sega New Astro City JAMMA cab with beautiful Nanao monitor. However, what drives me bonkers is having to readjust the screen for each resolution switch in MAME, and the fact it is stuck at 15kHz.
Absolute game fidelity is not critical to me, although the look of a real CRT can't be beat.
From people who have these cabinets would you recommend either:
a) buying a Wei ya 3129a or Rodotron 666a (which I understand are probably one and the same) analog tri-sync chassis and continuing to use the Nanao monitor either with 1) adjustments if I vary resolution and frequencies in MAME or 2) running at a constant 640x480 31khZ screensize and using cleanstretch in the older version of MAME for other resolutions.
b) ripping out the NANAO and just going with a WG 9800 which would allow customization of screen size for each resolution (I think) that could be stored digitally.
I'm not clear how hard it is exactly to replace the NANAO monitor entirely and how many adaptations have to be made to the frame to get it in there. I'm also not clear on how good exactly the WG 9800 is at making these screen size switches especially as different mame games run at slightly different update frequencies even if they use the same screen size. Finally, I'm not sure how much I lose by running every game at 640x480p and cleanstretching. I know the 1069 in 1 plug in MAME setups use a constant 640x480 resolution and people seem to be happy with that.
For anyone that has gone in either direction could you let me know why you made that choice and how you think it worked out for you.
Thanks
