Street Fighter IV is here!
« on: July 03, 2009, 09:17:06 pm »
My DVD arrived today and it has been installed.

Apparently the STIV benchmark program was underestimating my hardware. I've got AA cranked at 1280x720 and have yet to drop a frame. Looks absolutely gorgeous on my 1920x1200 LCD monitor!

Controls work well with my two U360 joysticks. You can remap the buttons, although it takes some time to figure out what button does what since it seems made for X360 gamepads.

This game works perfectly in my cabinet with my frontend. No complaints whatsoever.

Gameplay seems a bit tougher than the older games, or else I'm just rusty.

Off to play again!

Are you playing it in wide screen format or 4:3? How does it compare to the console versions?

Widescreen. My iPhone doesn't really show that unfortunately.

I've never played any of the console versions since I don't own a console.

It plays fine, but you can't map both players to keyboard.

You can try using PPJoy to emulate gamepads... but there have been problems reported where the 2nd player doesn't work or something.  If you're using a 64 bit operating system then forget it as ppjoy won't work.  It seems that the best REAL solution is to have at least 1 U360 joystick connected.

... yeah, I'm using a 64 bit OS.  I have 2 U360's that I could use, but I will have to build a new control panel to house them since my other joys are installed from the underside.

OR

I am lucky while I used an I-Pac for my original PC enccoder I later got something called the Cthulu board to use my Happ sticks on my Wii, there is a multi console version of it and it works for PC, it will allow you to use your digital sticks/buttons as a windows gamepad.

I am in the process of making a new cable for it now and a toggle so that I can use the Cthulu boards for SF4.  I have this game pre-ordered on steam.  Got 24 hours left till its activated.

Still I hope they release a patch to allow 2 player keyboard controls, its a shame to make us have to hack away at our setups to work around for a problem they can probably easily fix.

To the original poster... I am using Maximus Arcade too.  Any tips for getting it to work right with Maximus Arcade?  I hear there is a window during opening you have to get rid of with a script.  How does that work with Maximus Arcade?

Thanks for the help.  Also, before I buy it...does it require the disc to run the game?

What's the lowest resolution you guys have played it on?

Does it have a setting to automatically change the resolution back and forth from high resolution to low?

Yep, there's a loader screen when it first runs that I couldn't get rid of. I just use my trackball and a button mapped as a mouse button to navigate through it. If you manage to find the script to eliminate this, please let me know. So far it runs just fine under MA using the standard "create a batch file" option.

As for requiring the DVD, that's a good question. I installed a nocd crack right after installing it and didn't even bother to check to see whether it needed one or not. I've gotten so used to doing this over the years I forget to even check any more.  Somone else might be able to answer this.

The nocd patch sounds fine to me... not something I am too worried about, but I am concerned about getting the loader screen gone in MA.

By the way good job on the custom MA skin (UGA is my fav SEC team)... I'm a Nole grad myself, but my sis is an UGA grad... we both hate UF right! And you can thank us for Mark Richt :)  We miss him!

Thanks. It took a while to get used to modding MA but once you figure out how to use the theme editor it's a snap.

Yeah, I can't stand UF either. The Seminoles are the only ACC team I like. I guess it's because that's where Richt was before us. He's been a great coach for us, not to mention he's a standup guy as well. Hopefully we can pull the upset over UF this year. We're kind of flying under the radar.

FYI,

This game is incompatible with all AVGA2 cards.   :badmood:

Here's the link where I explain it in more detail:

Have you noticed any loss of online functionality when you use the nocd crack? I've found one from "reloaded" but have hesitated to install it. I'd hate to get booted from online play because of it, but right now I've got my DVD drive from my main computer hooked up to my arcade just for this game  :-\ So if online fighting still works, the nocd crack might be the ticket.

Also, if anybody finds a workaround for the launch screen for people without a mouse on their arcade, please spread the word.

Between the nocd issue and the launch screen issue, I'm limping by. But this game is so sweet that I'm willing to put up with alot of crap to enjoy it. Kudos to capcom on a great game!

I don't have my cabinet connected to my network. Online gaming has never interested me much. I'd rather have my buds at my house playing me in person and drinking some cold ones.

Yea, I consider the online play a bonus on top of a great game. My 2 online fights so far have been pretty disappointing but I haven't really tried it out yet, just enough to confirm that it works.

Anyway... some kind fella posted an auto hot key script to bypass the SF 4 launcher or splash screen. It's at the hyperspin forums here:

http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3793

It works like a charm. Be careful navigating the forum though, if you view more than 3 or 4 pages it requires you to register. The link should take you straight to the script so be sure to cut and paste it before exploring any further.

Also, I tried the nocd and it does allow for online play. Overall, I'm amazed how well this is coming together.

I'm stoked someone made a fix to get rid of the launcher.  Any idea how to make this work in Maximus Arcade?

I'm going to give it a try sometime this weekend. I've been so busy getting Amiga games loaded on my cab I haven't had a chance to work on it. Plus, Galaga is this month's high score competition game. Gonna be a busy weekend.

Cool keep me posted.  Getting frustrated since I have it all set up, other than I have to hit enter, which since I hide my keyboard (and am using 2 u360s) is kind of annoying.

Glad you got it working. I've been so busy playing Galaga for the BYOAC Hi-score competition I never got around to working on it.
