Some noob help please!
« on: July 01, 2009, 03:49:06 pm »
Hi All,

I recently bought a generic JAMMA cabinet, containing a 20" Hantarex POLO monitor. I've hooked up my PC via a JPAC interface, installed soft 15Khz, and it....sort of works!

I'm getting a constant flash of interference...like lines or lots of thin cursors popping up and instantly disappearing. The picture appears to be otherwise fine, and looks good.

At first I assumed the monitor was at fault, but opening the cab, I notice the light on the power supply is flashing exactly in time with these interference lines. Also the power supply seems to be making a very soft "ticking" noise. Also in time with the flashes (about 2 or 3 per second).

I know very little about electronics, can anyone explain to me what's going on. It looks like a potentially faulty power supply to me?

Also, I was expecting the monitor to handle a resolution of 640x480, but it doesn't. In fact the JPAC "doubles up" 640x480 as though it was a vga signal. Is this normal?

cheers for any help

Ummon

Try to find service manual info on that monitor, or at least it's specs. Also, if you have a spare power supply, try it out.

cheers!

Turns out the switching power supply was faulty, took it out as I don't actually need to power the JAMMA interface.

A regards my other probelm, can anyone help me get windows running at 640x480 interlaced in my cab. When I try to do so, I get the "split screen" effect that jpac creates when it gets an unsuitable vga signal.

Is there anything else I have to do to get this working?
