Video HELP on candy MAME cab
« on: June 23, 2009, 02:15:06 pm »
running:  P4 2.3, 1 GIG RAM, XPPro, Nvidia 256 MB (7600?) VC, soft15, Neo Geo 29" candy cab, Hitachi monitor

MAME: v .126

SYMPTOM: some horizontal-type scanlines in video processing, not HORRIBLE, but enough to distract, almost seems to be a slow refresh rate or something, appears as video 'lag' when action gets fast.

Wanted to post here before I go tweaking everything, including, MAME settings, video card driver, etc.

Best opinions?  Whats likely the culprit?  Was going to start with fiddling with refresh rate settings for monitor in Windows.

THANK YOU, any help greatly appreciated!

Lee

Nope, tripplebuffer disabled, should I enable?

ALSO - running at 800 X 600, & in Windows the screen 'dances' a bit at that resolution, is that normal?  Should I bump resolution down?

BTW using Arcade Maximus frontend here

Turn tripplebuffer on and see what that does for you.

triplebuffer - helps on lower sys requirement games, but I get 'draggy', jerky audio on Neo Fighters, etc.

Opinions?

You may want to try an earlier version of MAME as well...

I was considering trying to go to TinyXP, & perhaps upping my processor to a 3 Ghz Prescott, would that run smoother with .126?

It's possible.  You may want to upgrade your ram as well.

I think your problem is horizontal tearing. Triplebuffer=1 works great for some games that suffer tearing (especially horizontally scrolling games like Wonderboy and Cadillacs and Dinosaurs), but causes other problems (e.g. choppy sound) in other games. You have to apply it on a case-by-case basis, not just as an all-or-nothing.

The mame32 help file advises using 'match game refresh' with triplebuffer. If you're using Mame after the video re-write, never mind.
