Please help! philips crt issue
« on: June 23, 2009, 12:24:57 pm »
So I bought this tv to use in a arcade cabinet plugged into a pc and a ps2 and I was getting sick of how bad the geometry was on it. I messed with the service menu settings and while I was stretching out the image I guess i went to far because the tv shutoff by its self. When I turn it on I see the service menu for a second then it shuts back off..Any way to fix this? I left it unplugged for 24 hours still no go..its a Philips 24PT633R..Thanks

rca had a similar issue several years ago . the Hosc could be pulled far enough off frequency to go into shutdown.
the only way to reset the parameter was to detune the Houtput stage ( add capacitance ), adjust the parameter to a normal range , then remove the cap .
i'll see if i have this manual ........

btw , ALWAYS record on paper the parameter settings BEFORE making ANY changes !!!!!

there is a reason why service menu's are not easily assessable to customer's  ;)

(I dunno, just throwing it out there)

closest print i have is for a 25pt633r85.
in Sam's Photofact.  i don't believe it to be the same chassis.
the 24pt is likely a "flat crt"

are there additional numbers as above , and /or have a chassis number ?

Btw this is what some tv expert said on justanswer.com -

Possibly could be over-current protection due to short circuit in the line output stage, their are a lot of devices sem-conductors that will have to be checked.

You see the set is tripping because it senses overcurrent its designed that way

I couldnt be specific on this type of manmade problem

The only other thing I can think of outside of the fault situation as an outside chance is you have left a setting too high and the line output is being driven too hard and the set is shutting down before you can do anything the only thing to solve that one is a reprogram of the EEPROM but really that is as bad as a fault and you would need a jig to do it

i AM a tv guy ( 25+ yrs), and have not yet located the service manual .
obviously, i'm looking for "freebies" amoungst my sources .

some menus are "hidden" to keep people from doing excactly what u did   ;D

most likely , a critical adjustment is out of tolerance and triggering shutdown.
besides, a short should be relatively simple to locate.

will keep looking

just put up a request on the tech forum . will see if anyone bites  ;)

Thanks..I know I shouldn't have messed with it but I wrote down the numbers before I did..I did this on a Lg tv and the image would go to a certain point and reset..Obviously this one didnt..So let me know if you get anything because I spent hours cutting the damn side speakers off this tv to fit it in my cabinet and would hate to do it again..IS there any other numbers you want me to get? I might as well pull it out of my cabinet since its messed up right now...Thanks again

Ok I dont know what happened but my girl friend said she turned the tv on while pressing the channel button and it popped up white fuzz and the tv didnt shut off. I was going to restore the geometry settings I wrote down but heres the weird thing..Under horizontal I had options like HP, EWT,HSH,EWP, etc etc. Now only like 3 of those options appear. Whats also weird is that there are to black bars on the side of the tv and when you edit geometry options it moves the picture around within the bars but its like theirs a black "dead space" on both sides..You can tell more when you crank up the brightness..So either way its like I cant fit the screen image within the screen haha..I took some pics of service menu and tried to capture the black screen issue..It also seems like I lost my av1 input channel as well..I hope you can help me! Thanks!!! Posted pic of service menu
