Wierd screen colors on 27inch RGB tv
« on: June 21, 2009, 11:50:57 am »
I just picked up a nice 27 inch flat tube sanyo tv at an estate sale for $50 the reason why I bought it was because it had the RGB inputs on it which I heard is better than svideo (it also has 2 s video inputs)
So I took the back off of it and trimmed the sides and mounted it into the blank killer instinct 2 cabinet I picked up. Hooked it up to my pc, my video card came with svideo to rgb adapter (ati 4870 video card) but when I hook it up the color on the screen is blueish doesent look right I tried messing with the settings but no luck, hooked it upto svideo works fine. But I really wanna use the RGB output I checked all the cables to make sure they were plugged in ok.

Let's clear up a couple of simple things first

Component Video is not equal to RGB video.  They are very similar but not the same.

If you try to connect Component video to RGB ports you will recieve a very greenish screen.

I don't know what will happen if you connect RGB to Component ports.

Is you computer outputting Component video or RGB?

Does your TV have component ports or RGB?

Yeah, those arn't RGB inputs.  Those are YPbPr inputs.

Well the reason why I called them RGB is because the colors are red green and blue inputs on the tv and the adapter piece for my video card. But yea spent some more time trying to tweak the colors in my catalyst control panel for my video card. The color still remains a blue color, not sure what else to do so I went back to svideo for the time being.

My video card options have an option to check force tv and force component detection.

Are you connecting it via the VGA RGB output?  Cause those won't put out YPbPr in most circumstances.

Usually you need a TV out cable from the OEM like this:  http://i4.ebayimg.com/03/i/000/7b/e2/7691_1.JPG

Or, and this was used on VERY few ATi cards to my knowlwedge:  http://compeve.com/images/DVI_RGB_compeve.jpg

It should be noted that that DVI->Component adaptor does NOT convert the signal.  It uses a series of dipswitches on it, when connected to the graphics card that supports it, they talk and the graphics card will switch it's signal output to what ever the dipswitches are set for, and starts putting out component video.  Otherwise it's just a pinout adaptor for the analog DVI/VGA signal on the port.
