Mouse buttons won't stay down
« on: June 14, 2009, 10:47:49 pm »
So, I have an ultimarc opti-pac, and I'm trying to use buttons mapped to mouse buttons for pinball flippers. What I just realized is that the buttons are sending a momentary signal. Many times pinball games require you to press and hold a button to activate the plunger, and on release the plunger will fire. Since the signal coming out of the mouse buttons is so immediate, I can never begin a game of pinball, and the buttons don't seem to work well during gameplay either. The signal is too fast (I guess)

It's been a while since I've done anything to my machine, and I just don't remember what goes into using mouse buttons as regular buttons. If anyone would share some advice, it'd be great.

Mapped to mouse buttons, or wired to the optipac?  Mapped implies some software XYZ to mouse conversion, so it will depend on the software.

I was going to say "totally depend on software", above, but there are some general cases which might be a cause.  The one OTTOMH I know happens is with two or more mouse devices (hardware and/or software); held buttons will be "canceled" if mouse imput comes from a different device.  IOW, if mouse button one is part of mouse device 1, and mouse button 2 & the TB movements is connected to mouse device 2, when you press and hold button 1, then move the TB or press button 2, windows assumes button 1 was released.

Hey u_rebelscum. It's been awhile since I've been here and seen the old familiar avatars. Thanks for the help.

Right now the mouse buttons, my trackball and spinner are wired to an optipac. And the buttons won't stay down anywhere in the system. When using those buttons in Windows, you can't click and drag for instance. They register a button press/release as soon as the button is pressed. I just don't even know where to start trying to figure out what to do to make them work. It seems like the last time I tried to wire them up to do anything this same issue happened so I just gave up and made them keyboard inputs. It'd be ideal if they worked as mouse buttons, so if you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them.
