I think I have a fix for you.
startcom V4.0 will allow you to add any emulators that need to run vertical to the startcom.ini file.
PM me your email (I lost it), and I will send you startcom V4.0 so you can test it.
If you are happy with it, I will upload it to malafe.net

Whats new in this version:
You may add emulator names to startcom.ini under [Vertical Games].
startcom will look for any emulators in this category, if it finds the one that you have selected to run from Mala, then it will send message to mrotate2 to rotate 90, and also turn mala screen vertical.
It will treat it the same as a vertical mame game.
If the emulator is not listed in the category, and it's not a mame vertical game, then the horizontal method will be used.

badd ass!  Thanks for looking into all this startcom stuff!  I still need to test 3.1 yet, but the swine flu or strain thereof has bitten me this weekend.  It's also good to see it's making it's way onto malafe.net

Hi DaOld Man, I just sent you a PM and E-Mail.

This is way more than I expected. Thanks for the awesome work.

Hopefully my cab will be a good beta tester for the startcom 4.0 plugin.

@richie rich

GREAT WORK OF YOURS!!!

I am lucky to live in Germany.  I got an Arcade Cabinet named Quadro Games.
25Zoll CRT, 4x PCB possible but the best it can rotate the screen without any modification.

One Tip for you. Do you have some probs with wrong colors after turning?
So you need more endswitches for a short DEGAUSS of the monitor after turning.

I am using a keyboard LED (the SCROLL LED) for rotating and a mala plugin.
If the SCROLL LED is lid the screen rotates to vertical
If the SCROLL LED is not lid the screen rotates to horizontal.

Nice rotating monitor cab wolfsoft.

BTW I don't have any problem with colors being off because I have my monitor powered off while rotating by having a relay hooked up to my h-bridge power out to the monitor motor using the normaly closed side of the relay.

What frontend are you using? Is that Mala and the startcom plugin for rotating?

Update!

I got mrotate2 and startcom plugins set up and working perfectly.I also solved the monitor moving at boot up problem by installing a parallel port card that sends a high signal to all output ports on the parallel port card essentially putting the H-Bridge in braking mode.

Video of it working "Please excuse bad video quality".

And a big Thank You to DaOld Man for all the help getting my monitor rotating.

Wow, that is nice.  I need to get my rotating monitor motorized.  The big issue with mine will be the bezel.  When the monitor is 1/2 way through a rotation, the bezel hits the inside of the cabinet.  Right now I pull the glass off (which has some hidden velcro strips to grab), take off the bezel, rotate the monitor, put the bezel back on, and then put the glass back on.

Super PITA!!

Hey telengard,

I just checked out your cab on your web page and I gotta say your cab looks great. You could easily add a windshield motor and put one of those castors on it and put it behind your support board along with an H-Bridge to control it.

I also see a lot of similarities on your monitor setup and mine. as far as the bezel goes I am still researching how to make one out of black construction paper. Also I notice you're running visual pinball on your cab, I have mame, visual pinball and future pinball running on my cab using mala as my front end and a plugin for the mala front end to automatically rotate the monitor via parallel port wired to a h-bridge.

Have you ever thought about trying another front end like mala to rotate your monitor automatically with a motor?
