19" V's 25" arcade, need some help please.
« on: July 06, 2003, 05:23:15 pm »
Hi all.
I have two cabs, one will be 19" vertical arcade monitor with ArcadeVGA card.
The other will be 25" horizontal and I was going to use ArcadeVGA card for this as well. However I heard recently that most 25" monitors are medium res. I have the monitor ordered, my question is this. If the monitor is 15Hz I can run it with ArcadeVGA but if it is med res, what is the best way to get a signal to it?
Thankyou in advance.

I'm thinking chances are that your 25" monitor can handle standard resolution. Lot of med resolution monitors also support standard resolution. Personally I've never heard that most 25"ers are medium resolution. The 25" in my KI2 is a standard resolution monitor as far as I know.

neo geo, MK series, tekken 2.. are all standard res and usually 25" monitors (well neo can be either 19" or 25"... and with conversions who can even tell anymore these days)

What WOULD be useful if you'd like an answer is if you took a picture of your monitor and noted some serial number/model number/brand/type info on it... or maybe what game is in it now (or was last in it when it was working)

I can't read your mind when I have my tinfoil hat on, sorry...

OK thanks for your help folks.
I rang the guy who is supplying the monitor and he says it is standard monitor ( low res ) but that it has 2 input plugs one for med res and one for low res ( weird ). So anyway all is cool, thanks for your input.

When you get into the newer & larger arcade monitors, it's not that uncommon to find them 15/25kHz switchable.  Here's a pic of my 25" pentranic chassis (Note the connector for 15/25kHz compatibility):

Should be as easy as moving the plug (I think).
