Nintendo Inversion confusion... Help!!!
« on: June 08, 2009, 02:25:48 am »
Hello,

I purchased a Nintendo Video Inverter from Mikes Arcade and I am confused hooking this up.

I want to use it for playing a MAME/ArcadeVGA setup
which is outputting to standard Nintendo video cable -- to a standard Sanyo EZ20 monitor.

The Video In connector is the Nintendo style whereas the Video Out is a 6 pin wired header.  I was expecting both to be the Nintendo style which is like the stock inverter boards that come mounted on some of these monitors for conversions.

What do I do with the Video Out wiring?

My setup is basically:

ArcadeVGA --> VGA cable --> Video Amplifier --> Nintendo Video Cable --> Mikes Inversion board Video IN --> wired video out

but how do i wire this?

By the looks of things:

http://www.mikesarcade.com/store/datasheets/NinInvAmp.pdf

What's coming out is a standard spaced connector, and you need the Nintendo spacing.  You can either get the right headers and some wire and make a connector you can use, find someone to make the cable for you, or get an old inverter board so your existing wiring will work.

Sounds like a bit of confusion going on to start with....... Mikes Inversion board is for playing NINTENDO games on a standard monitor.

Use a standard monitor with your Nintendo board.

If you have a Sanyo 20EZ that was originally used in a Nintendo machine that produced an inverted signal then what you need is the Sanyo Inversion Board which allowed the use of standard (jamma) type games on those monitors. Mikes board is the other way around. Which is also the reason the output connector is different on Mikes board, it's designed to plug the output into a "standard" monitor.

EDIT:
I see in the .pdf Peale pointed out that it does mention using it the way you are wanting...sorta... but it's not very clear. I can't see how connecting it up one way will give you BOTH options. (maybe I'm missing something there though)

It’s also can be used as a color corrector for Nintendo Sanyo and Sharp monitors, allowing you to use them with standard game boards.

The Mikes Arcade board should work, at least according to the instructions.  I am trying to use a Sanyo EZ20 with a Non-Nintendo game board (which is really a MAME PC).  How, is what I am asking.  I have all connections and wiring, so do I run this thing in reverse or what?  I do not have a Sanyo stock inversion board on my monitor, unfortunately.  I know the stock board has Nintendo-style headers like "INVERSION IN" "INVERSION OUT".  I am really confused on how to use Mike's board for this purpose.  I've emailed but haven't got a response quite yet.

Anyone?????????

Anybody have any answers?   I've already tried to email Mikes Arcade but they don't seem to understand what I want to do.   I believe the board has to be run in reverse, ie VIDEO IN will be VIDEO OUT and vice versa.  If this is even possible?

How are you guys MAMEing a Sanyo EZ20 if you dont happen to have the original inversion board?  Bob Roberts sells a kit that replaces some jumpers and things on the chassis but it will take a while to get delivered as he can't use Paypal.  Any other options, as I am trying to meet a deadline....

Personally...... if you are just planning on mameing it anyways.....I'd just replaced the handful of missing components on the main chassis to revert it back to a standard monitor which is what they began as in the first place.
Then you would just connect your video source directly to the monitor. (will still have to modify a cable to connect it properly though)
Fewer pieces, less to fiddle with, less to go wrong, etc.

I agree, I've got the parts on order from Bob Roberts.  I guess I wasted money on the Mikes Arcade board, even though the instructions say it should work Mike himself told me that he doesn't know.  Arrrghh..  Thanks
