My 19" Arcade monitor, best setup??
« on: July 05, 2003, 06:10:10 am »
Hi all,

I currently have an arcade cab with a 19" monitor installed I have a connected a pc to it via J-pac and setup mame using advancemame under dos all is working ok. aprt from when the system is booting at the bios screen i get fast picture roll until the advance mame menu is loaded. Now i would like to be able to load windows and run other stuff on this cab and possibly connect my ps2 and dreamcast at a later date. what would be the best possible setup in this case??. I have limited money to spend at the moment but here is what i currently have access to:-

The arcade cab with its 19" 15khz monitor
1 x J-Pac (currently connected & working)
1 x I-Pac (Currently doing nothing)
1 x PC (Intel 1ghz celeron, 10gb hdd, 64mb ATI Xpert 200 pro, 128mb ram)

Also have spare 19" & 21" Computer monitors (maybe use one of these and ditch the arcade monitor?? your thoughts please)

Various extra arcade buttons & joysticks, jamma finger boards to enhance cab and build a supergun for a friend (maybe!).

Any help appriciated.

PS: I'm based in London, UK if thats any help (probably not  ;D) current picutre of cab is attached lots to do to it still.

You can try using the powerstip or similiar utility to force windows to run at 15khz... but your best bet is to buy an ArcadeVGA card from Ultimarc.

Note: I don't know how that will help you with your console connecting aspirations... but will make a much easier go of getting windows/windows apps to run decently on your arcade monitor.

Good luck!

I used PowerStrip in Windows to get a steady picture, but it took a LONG time to tweak perfectly, and there is almost a science to it. Getting an ArcadeVGA would be infinitely easier. Only reason I didn't use an ArcadeVGA was cuz they weren't invented yet!  :-\ (That and I have a money-flow issue...)

As for the consoles, I'm pretty sure that both you mentioned are VGA compatible with the proper "black box". Maybe that wills et you on the right track. But since I'm not about to go throwing my consoles in side an arcade machine, I'm not gonna know all the details of it.

Thanks for your inputs guys (inputs!! ;D),

Ok i have downloaded and installed powerstrip installed win98se boot up i now have a stable picture (640x480x256 col)but the picture is split down the middle. Removed the 31khz jumper off the j-pac as suggested by ultimarc picture just screws up again. Not to sure what custom settings i need to set in powerstrip, any got some settings for me to try?? AlanS17 what settings have you got powerstrip running on?.

Can't afford another Ultimarc product right now   :( so powerstrip will have to do!.
