Console Arcade of sorts
« on: May 25, 2009, 07:29:54 pm »
I did a decent donation of arcade style gaming to the anime convention Anime North this year and I thought I'd share.  My main goal was to present more than just fighting games and Rockband to the con for good arcade style pickup and play gaming.  So I thought I'd share some of the pics with you.

Of course, Light Guns.  I own most of the worth while PS1 and PS2 rail shooters and setup two PS2's on identical TVs next to each other, using milk crates to get them to shooting height.  We had the machines linked by firewire and ran dual machine, dual screen co-op Time Crisis 2 and Time Crisis 3 at times.  Almost as good as the arcade.  Stuff like Point Blank 1, 2 and 3, Vampire Night, Ninja Assault, Area 51 and others were played as well.  Once I setup the guns they attracted the same sized crowd as the fighting games were attracting

Dreamcast running stuff like Ikaruga and Daytona USA.  We used a VGA cable to get decent results on the HDTV.  Right now in the photo however it was running some PS2 Shmup, but Ikaruga was extreamly popular when running.  It's really too bad that Daytona USA never got a networkable PS2 port for LAN play.

And of course, the required staple as well, fighting games.

While I failed to get a photo of it, Pinball Hall Of Fame: The Williams Collection was also featured and enjoyed by many who were suprised by the pinball simulation.  To encourage pinball play we were giving away t-shirts for reaching a certian ammount of points on any of four tables.  (The more modern tables it featured basicly)

Finally, while I was holding the camera, there are no pictures of ME playing with my own toys even if I traveled 500km to set them up.  So here's a picture of me in my hotel room before I went out to do the setups. :)

Very nice work (",)

The milk crate setup looks a little scary though  :o

I've only recently picked up a gamecube version of Ikaruga, what a great SHMUP!

woo dreamcast! I always enjoy seeing it in undead action! So anything other than ikaruga? Maybe some fighters for it as well?(I think project justice would be a blast at an anime convention, considering the content and story)

DJ_Izumi, in your post you mentioned Area 51 in you list of light-gun games you had available to play and I was wondering a couple things...  Is that a PS1 game and can you play that with the Guncons?

Reason I ask is that I have PS1 copy (and by copy I mean original store bought [no realy, I'm serious]) of Area 51 and a Guncon and they don't seem to like each other.
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

The Dreamcast ran various games, Ikaruga, Under Defeat, Last Home, and some others whom's names I can't remember, but basicly as many DC Shumps as I could find ISOs for.

Uhh, the fighters were your typical faire, Guilty Gear, King Of Fighters, Street Fighter, and the Soul Caliber series setups, mostly their 6th gen itterations.

No, Area 51 does not support the Guncon because the PS1 port predates the Guncon's existence, though the similar port Maximum Force does.  I used a third party multi-gun that can work as a Konami Justifier, Guncon 1 and Guncon 2.  In Justifier mode it works fine.  Maximum Force supports both Justifier and Guncon 1.

I actually brought 8 guns total.  4 x Guncon1, 2 x Guncon 2 and 2 x Third Party

And I bought another Guncon 2 in the dealers room, giving me an even collection of 4 Guncon 2's now (I'd left one of the three I owned at home)
