Monitor inside a PGA TOUR cabinet making clicking sounds.
« on: May 21, 2009, 07:13:56 pm »
Hi Everybody,

I had just purchased a working PGA TOUR cabinet (what they had told me), but for only 300 Canadian not a big deal.

When I plugged in the cab to test it when I brought it home, the computer fires up and I hear clicking sounds coming from the monitor, on the board it say's wells Gardner, I think it is a 9200 as I see the VGA input connected from the computer.  Not sure what to think of it and I'm not really good with CRT components. Does this mean that it is shot or salvageable.

Any input would be greatfully appreciated.

when a monitor with a SMPS is clicking/ticking, it usually indicates a high load ( i.e. short ) on a secondary.
this is frequently a shorted horiz output xistor . however, diodes in the supply can and do fail.
so, grab a multimeter and do some searching ......

Let me know if you can't/don't want to fix it and I may be interested in buying it off of you. I have a Golden Tee but wouldn't mind also having a PGA.

Thanks for the help, will get a repair tech to take a closer look at it. As I'm not very confidant doing it myself.
