wtb... sega saturn moded console
« on: May 14, 2009, 10:42:27 pm »
I wish to own a modded Sega saturn that will play back up games.
Or can a mod chip be found for one still?

They can still be found and it's a ridiculously easy mod.

Not this one... I have my original model 1 saturn from launch and I have a modded model 2.  That's pretty much it for me with Saturn systems.  Don't need more than that.   ;D  The Saturn isn't one you could ever find at yard sales.

I just do a swap on the model 1, no chip needed. It's so easy to do (though I'm probably damaging the laser assembly).

Do you know of a chip supplier that still exists? I used to sell them (amongst other things) and I've had several requests for some again. I can't find ANYONE who stocks any, even the "retailers" are all out of stock or not even listing them anymore.

That guy has them.  Have never done business with him but have heard he's legit.

Really? I wouldn't trust some guy with a free Angelfire site....especially after a phishing warning just popped up.  :o

Swap trick is a PITA and hard to do unless you decase the system, IMO.  Not worth the effort if you can chunk $25 at the problem and never worry about it again.

All I had to do was open it once to adjust the door sensor to be "always closed" and I just open the lid like normal for the swap. No de-casing.

I've done that, sticking a wadded piece of paper in the sensor, but doing this on any system is not bad for the laser.....it's bad for the spindle motor. They're tuned quite fine, and grabbing the disc while it's spinning will eventually throw it out of whack or kill it.

I wouldn't buy from someone with such a simpleton site on Angelfire either. I used to buy mine from Xinga as well, and even though they're not easily found anymore......that $25  price tag is WAY out of line.

Which is what I meant when I said the laser assembly. Not the laser itself, but the spindle.

I'd definitely prefer a modchip over this, but for now, it's what I've got to do.

If you're handy, you can always install a switch on the power line for the spindle  ;)

System won't know you've shut the spindle motor off if you jump right in before the motor itself. I put a switch in one of my PS2s to open and close the tray without the system knowing.

If the Saturn modchips are all NLA now you're probably better off just finding a modded Saturn instead.  Lots of those around if you ask at the right console forums.
