Monitor Help for a noob
« on: May 14, 2009, 10:48:03 am »
I have recently happened upon a wg k7000 25" monitor and need some help diagnosing... er planning for my next steps. Could this be a bad flyback? If you cant tell by the pic There is a dominant Green tint and the Red and Blue are distorted/muted. There is also some horizontal bending going on.

it isn't ur fly . the fact that u HAVE a pic eliminates that .

the chassis likely needs some 'lytic capacitors replaced .
most folk here seem to favor the shotgun approach with model specific "cap kits"

the crt appears to be  weak .  rejuvination will likely perk it up considerably.....

I just replaced the caps and no change in the picture. I have a 19" tube that I can use to test the chassis. I heard that rejuvenating the tube can kill it, so it would probably be best to invest in  a new tube. If you can think of anything else that it could be please let me know.

yes, an improperly done rejuve might damage a crt.  if extreemly weak , what do you have to lose by trying ?

if the cathodes are in fair condition , the process should considerably improve ur pic .

used crt testors/rejuvinators can be had on ebay for much less than new

pd a $1000  new for my cr70 back in '84

Ha, makes it seem like a steal when you put it that way. Thanks for the tip.

Sorry about that. Hopefully you've had the chance to make a good flip to get your money's worth.

So I have spent the past couple of hours on further diagnosis. I have hooked up the Jamma board to another monitor that I have and it looks brilliant. I then swapped chassis and behold it looked crappy so... It's definitely in the chassis (hopefully the tube's good I'll test that tomorrow to be sure). Now that I have concluded this what wold be my next steps. Already did the cap kit, the HOT and the flyback shouldn't effect this...

did ur "cap kit" include caps for the neck board ?

if its the board i'm thinkingof , there are 3 caps for rgb input to the lm1203   ~ 10uf/16-25v
there is also a b+ filter cap for the ic  220-470uF/16-25v
also check the 4.7-10uf/250v .

it may then need some minor adjustments ( tweaking )
