Ive been away from this forum for a while finishing my CS degree, hope everything is well.

I have a very large showcase cabinet with a very large monitor inside.  Im pretty sure the chassis is a Kortek.  Pictures of the cabinet/monitor can be found in this older thread:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=61159.0

It has been working with my mame computer running an arcadeVGA for a while now.  But recently it has begun to malfunction.

Symptoms: currently, if i turn on the computer and the monitor from a cold state, it does work for a while.  But the screen has intermittent artifacts.  i'll try to describe it properly: horizontal lines  tear across the entire width of the monitor, usually no more than a 1/4 inch thick.  These lines appear randomly over the entire height of the display at a rate of about 1 or 2 per second, each one being a quick flash on the screen.

This by itself is no serious issue, more of a annoyance, but as the screen warms up it changes to a worse state.  The whole display goes beserk, with the image tearing and scrolling all over the place.  You can still see the image trying to be displayed as it moves all over the place.

Also, when the monitor is in this state, and I remove the video input cable, there is a horizontal (slightly wavy) red line running through the center of the monitor.

At this point im not sure what to do next.  Im going to try to make some video recordings of the problem and hopefully get them uploaded for your inspection.  Please help me!

An update: I ran the screen for about 10 minutes before the problem began to show itself.  I had the chassis exposed while i did this.  When the screen went crazy I could hear what I can only describe as a high pitch sizzle coming from some where in the chassis.  I looked, but couldnt visually identify anything bad......

another update: here are two videos of the problems i described. I took these with a mobile phone, so i apologize for thier quality.

bet u have some poor connections on the vert output IC.

if so, some resoldering should take care of it

Thanks for the reply qrz, but now ive got more info.

Today I had time to pull out the board and run the monitor under closer inspection.  I am now almost positive that the problem lies in the flyback transformer.

The flyback transformer is spewing a purple arc of electricity, which i only noticed because of working in poor lighting conditions.  It is happening right at the top of the component, right where the red cable begins and runs to the anode.

So what do i do? Can i replace the whole flyback transformer? How would I do so? Where should I get one?  Thanks in advance to anyone who has advice......
