Controller INI & Button Config
« on: July 03, 2003, 03:34:02 pm »
Can anyone help me with my button config?  Currently my CP has 7 buttons per player. (hooked to an I - PAC)

  x x x       1 2 3 (<- I-PAC wiring)
x x x x    4 5 6 7

The bottom 4 are colored like the neo geo and i would like to use them that way... Is their a way to config my buttons so only the Neo Geo buttons take over for Neo Geo and the rest of the games can be treated normally?  Or should i rewire these buttons in a different pattern than as shown?

I have heard of the controller.ini files, but i don't understand how to use them or what they really do?

My panel is very similar to the Slik Stik layout, I D/L ed the ini and I-PAC files, should i use these?  I use many other emulators with MameWah FE, so this option would mess all the other EMUs button configs...

I'd love to hear what others are doing... Thanx

sure is.... set them up the usual way in your default.ini
then make a neogeo.ini (how aptly named)  and make the revised layout there.  When it's a neogeo game it will override the default settings with any differences in the neogeo.ini  In other words you don't even have to put every single button in the neogeo.ini, just the ones that are changed.

Hierarchys are great that way!  :)

Howard,

I am using MamePlus and their is no default.ini files!  I looked in the CTRL DIR.  I do have a STD.ini, is this the same idea?  Put the Neogeo.ini here?

yes, you see you need to make a folder called "my controlpanel" or whatever in your ctrlr dir.  notice the hotrod slikstick ect folders?  if you go in those there should be some sort of default.cfg..... you need to use one of those as a guide and then make a neogeo.ini too

std.ini is just a guide so you know all of the constants for making your own ini files.

when you get it setup you need to set the ctrlr type to whatever you called the folder you made.

Hope that clarifys things....

Howard,

Got it!  One more question, will i have to use a "-ctrl 'cotnroler name' " when running mame to invoke these ini files?
That would mean i need to add the switch as one of my options and pass it when I launch a game from MameWah right?

in the docs folder in mame is more insfo on ctrlr files.  in the mame.ini file you will see how to setup a default ctrlr folder.

Let's say you have this file structure

c:\mame\ctrlr\mycabinet\

You'd run mame like 'mame -ctrlr mycabinet somegame'
or setup the ctrlr info in the mame.ini file.
