I bought a Nintendo Sharp monitor to replace my busted Nintendo Sanyo monitor. Can anyone explain to me how to connect the inverter board to the Sharp Monitor?

Here are a couple of pictures and a video.

Here is where the AB cable connects to the sanyo ez monitor board. Where do I connect this on the Sharp monitor board.

Here is where the AB cable connects to the inverter board (sorry not very clear).

Here is a video of what is happening :)

The Inverter board is NOT used if running a Nintendo game.

If that Sharp came from a Nintendo game then just plug it straight into the monitor.
Or it should be using the NON-INVERT OUT port on the inverter which merely bypasses it and goes straight to the monitor more or less.

The AB wire is the power source for the Inverter Board when being used for NON-Nintendo games such as JAMMA games, etc. So you do not need it in this case.

Thanx for the quick response. I think it does have to go through the inverter because the original monitors had both inverter boards hooked up. I tried to hook it straight to the monitor and the colors are all reversed. Do you know where I could power the AB connector from, so I could at least try it?

I'm assuming that's both a Sanyo and a Sharp you have sitting there in your video......

To test the theory first, you could get the monitors side by side/back to back  and unplug the AB (power) cable from the Sanyo and plug it into the inverter you put on the Sharp. You'll still have to power both monitors up.

You can also totally switch the two inputs from one monitor to the other and see if the problem persists. (on the monitor that now looks good)

Was the other Sanyo that you replaced working at one time while you've had it?
Did it look right on that monitor?

You may have a "color PROM" issue on the boardset. (smaller board) There's like six PROMs I believe. You try reseating those.

EDIT:
Also could you confirm if that Sharp monitor came from a Nintendo game?
The Sanyo's and the Sharp were specifically modified for the older Nintendo games.
(which is why the inverter is used for other games)

The sharp monitor was from an old donkey kong machine. Here is a video of the video cable plugged directly into the sharp monitor.

I called up Chad from ArcadeCup.com and asked him the question about inverted video. He told me to splice my cable from the working monitor AB cable to power up the inverter board on the Sharp monitor and here are the results.

Kevin thank you very much for all of your help. Your troubleshooting tips helped me to try different things to narrow down the problem.

Ok, now you got me wanting to do some poking around...... because from your "working" video it appears you have the video input on the Sharp monitor connected to the INVERT OUT side of the Inverter Board. Which is primarily for NON-Nintendo games....in which case does indeed require power in order to work. But that would also mean that the signal from the board wasn't inverted to begin with.

But on the Sanyo you have there working the video input is plugged into the NON-INVERT OUT side of the Inverter Board.

That just doesn't equate to me.
One is one way and the other is the other way.
They should be both the same I would have assumed.

I'd almost bet if you swapped the video inputs from your game board to each monitor the colors would be screwed up again on both monitors.

Did this up awhile back.... good for reference here and there.

On a side note: Could you take a good regular pic of where that "12v" is coming from on the Sanyo? Like in your first pic. (the AB line) I need to add that wire to a Sanyo monitor that didn't originally have it and I don't have an example to go by.

Here is where the 12v is connected to the Sanyo. I got you on the opposite hook-up on the Sharp. Sorry man I am new to Arcade monitors, thats why I was a little confused  ??? It is connected to R232

Thanks for pointing out that AB spot.

No problem..... it's still throwing me off because yours actually "worked" on the wrong output of the inverter board so to speak.

Even if you look at the schematic for Punchout you can see both monitors should be plugged in identically.

Interesting......
