STAR TREK VOYAGER sitdown with green only monitor?
« on: May 07, 2009, 09:19:33 pm »
Someone has one for cheap pretty close to me... I would love to get it, but I would pass if the monitor wasn't fixable.  Anyone with a guess what it could / probably is?  I haven't driven over to see it yet.. (but don't know what to look for... and if I fix it on site, he would probably double the cost).

Any suggestions?  should I scrap the idea?

In my opinion ..... ANY monitor is "fixable".

The major concern is to know if it's a green screen only because the game is not playing.
In other words, that would be a boardset problem.

So does the game play "blind" ?
Can you coin it up and hear it playing , etc. ?

Usually when "joe average" says the screen is looking "green" it means the red canon/color is not working. Could be anything from a bad connection (likely) to a defective electron gun (unlikely, esp. since it's a relatively recent cab).

Damn I love the side-art of that cab.......really don't know why though ;)

Could also be because the green drive transistor is shorted on.   If it's a K7400/K7500/U2000/U5000 this is extremely likely.  The heat from the red and blue transistors seems to  add to the heat of the middle (green) one, making this happen pretty often.

More than likely it's just bad connections in the molex connector on the video harness to the monitor.

They probably used the cheapo press the wire in type. Simple fix pull wire out strip off insulation and press wire back in.

So did you end up getting it, or did you let it slip through your sweaty little fingers ;)

I seem to recall that those cabinets had projection monitors (RP CRT) in them, not direct view.

Projection sets are a little more complicated, but still usually reparable aside from the inevitable burn.

I had the same problem with my Star Trek Voyager, I called Wells Garner and told them what it was doing, I thought it was a cap kit problem. they told me that there was a bad part at location so n so on the neck board. I ordered a new neck board from them, for $70 or so and that fixed the problem,
