Using arcade steering controls on PS2
« on: May 03, 2009, 12:21:36 am »
Hello all,

As an offshoot of my MAME projects, I had a scenario come up in which I would like to use a 'heavy duty' set of arcade driving controls to use on PS2 games.

So I would be looking for some kind of interface that would allow me to hook up an arcade style panel to the PS2.

I am mostly interested in just a wheel, an accelerator pedal and brake pedal.

Thanx,

Geo

You'd need to hack up an existing PS2 wheel such as the Driving Force Pro.  Well, if you want it to work right at least.  You could probbly attempt some sort of DualShock hack.

Most PS2 games with true wheel support support a limited set protocol.  GT3 for example, could support 'Generic' PC USB steering wheels whereas GT4 removed this unoffical support and ONLY supports the Driving Force and GT Pro series of wheels.  Different games have different support though it seems that most everything supports the Driving Force series at the least.  You'd probably want to canibalize one of those since you couldn't build one from scratch, you'd need it's PCBs to identify itself to the PS2 and be supported.
