ArcadeVGA and AdvanceMAME?
« on: July 02, 2003, 05:12:11 pm »
I've got my Taito Egret II cabinet set up running AdvanceMenu/MAME in DOS with a Blade T64, and the picture is great, the colors are great, and game play is great. So why would I want to mess with it? Good question...

Because I'd like to be able to run Area 51 and other shooter games, and assume that the only way to do that is to run Windows so that I can get USB support more easily. I've found a couple of rough DOS USB drivers, but haven't tried them yet.

So I ordered an ArcadeVGA card from Ultimarc, assuming that I could just throw it in the computer even if I didn't decide to reconfigure with Windows, and at least I'd get clear BIOS screens so that it looks a little more "professional", and still be able to run AdvanceMAME. Now I've heard that AdvanceMAME crashes with the ArcadeVGA card from someone on the AdvanceMAME mailing list. Has anyone else heard this?

I'll go back and read the information on the Ultimarc site, but just wondered if anyone had been happily running AdvanceMenu/MAME and then switched to the ArcadeVGA card, and if so, what the results were. :)

If you had to switch to another front end and/or emulator (like straight DOS MAME or Windows MAME) what did you end up going with?

Thanks!

AdvanceMame will work fine once configured, but the configuration utility crashes. Look on the old forums for ultimarc (go to ultimarc.com click message board, but don't go to the new message board) for how to do it (just search in your browser for 'Advance Mame'.
