I'm not sure if any one encountered this before but I'm having an odd sound issue on one of my JAMMA games. If I take the PCB out of the cabinet that's having the issue and place it into another JAMMA cabinet the sound is fine no problems with the PCB from what I can tell.. However.. in the current cabinet it's in the sound cuts in and out, sometimes crisp, sometimes garbled. It sometimes fades to a lower volume and then returns. Sometimes if i actually tap/hit lightly where the speaker is the sound will come back on. So i'm thinking either the speaker is bad or a bad connection ? But again if I pull the PCB out and test it on another JAMMA cabinet no issues.. so It's not the PCB.

Well.....there are two wires going to the speaker. If they're soldered, check the solderings. If it's with connectors, they may have lost their grip.

Check the speaker........ sometimes it's the wiring that leads from the connection tabs to the cone itself that goes bad. (I'm speaking inside the speaker itself)

Simple enough to verify if it's the speaker by connecting another one in it's place temporarily.

EDIT:
Included pic for clarification.

Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

I think I'll try to cut the old quick dissconnects that are on them now, put new ones on, and see if that solves anything.

sounds to me like the speakers copper coil works but is frayed on the inners and giving mixed results sound wise from getting stuck and unstuck binding etc..

take the speaker out and press it in by the center and see if it feels smooth or if it gets hung or make's/feels kinda after that from the bottom push it out and see if it feels smooth or crunchy

should be smooth in and out with no binding or chrunchy sometime they work fine one way but not the other but it is an easy way to tell if the speaker is shot or not.

I Finally got a chance to working on this because it was really bothering me while playing the game.. and i realized that the tiny wires going to where the sodder was from the speaker directly broke off while I was trying to better fix the issue of redoing the quick disconnects. After I resodderd that area it seems to be fine now and not cutting in and out. As of now it's fixed! kinda did a band-aid job though and i'm sure the issue will come back because I did a half assed job.. going to be moving the machine to a different location, so once it's in it's final spot then I'll redo it again if needed. Other wise things are good for now.
