Sorry I cannot help you with your problem, but are you aware of Project64?

Ultra64 is an emulator design to play Killer instinct 1 and 2 only. It seems like it doest it better than MAME. It is not a nintendo 64 emulator

Before I updated my computer to be able to run KI in mame, i used Closemul to launch U64.

You can have it pass keypresses that will go through and launch the game after you load it up.  Its not great, but it works just fine.

I use Maximus Arcade and it launches U64 perfectly.

What are the benefits of using Ultra 64 versus say mame32?
Is there better image/game quality, or something else?

Ultra64 is worse than mame.  There are emulation errors, bugs, and freezes.

However, its about 10x faster than Mame.

The benefit is to run KI and KI2 on older machines.  If they are playable in Mame, use Mame for sure.
