Touch screen seral port adopter to usb not working

Hi

I have just bought a used Digipos monitor (I think it is an Elo screen branded), it uses the Elo driver software, and uses a com port to interface.

I would like to connect it to a laptop, but most laptops (and my laptop) don't have com ports. I have a docking adopter, where I have a com port, but when I install the sotware and it gets connected the computer reboots (And I have to pull the cable out for it to stop). The guy I bought it from told me this might happen.

Do anyone know of a solution?
