This is a project I started buying parts for 10 years ago, but my wife put her foot down and told me we did not have room in our 1000sf house for an arcade machine. I told her back then that when we move I would restart working on my dream. Well, we moved and much to my wife's dismay, 10 years later I still want my own Mame Cabinet.

So... I was cruising Craigslist last weekend and came across this gutted cabinet.  I was planning on building one from scratch, but I really liked the uniqueness of this one so 60 bucks later and it was mine.

Now does anyone have any idea what it was originally?  The side art was Neo-Geo Samuri Showdown. However it doesn't look like any Neo-Geo I have found online so I am guessing it was a conversion.

BASS!

man that thing is a trip. That is one of the strangest cabs I've seen. It looks like it was born to be a mame cab:-). Quite a bit of restro involved in this one. Good luck!

  • RIP Dinosaur Hippo
very unique cabinet....should be a fun project.    i'm sure my wife would have put her foot down too, but i bought the cabinet and brought it home when she wasnt there...that way she had no room to put her foot down, because that space was taken up with an arcade cabinet..:)

i'm having problems convincing her i need a light gun cabinet though..perhaps i'll just get one one of these days...

congrats on the cabinet find..that should make a great mame cabinet

  • Laser Death Ray Bargain Bin! Make me an offer!
I love the curves. It's got a cool half moon profile.

Oh. You could totally StarGate SG1 this thing out!

Here's a guy that's started down that path, but the curved sides on this one would be excellent!

That cab is sweet and definitely made to be mamed.  No idea what it is though.  I slowly started accumulating arcade parts so my wife was not very surprised when I said I was making a cabinet.

That is the original Street Fighter cab with the pressure sensitive  buttons.

Sweet, thanks for the help KDOG. I did see street fighter was written on the inside of the coin door, but I immediately dismissed it because it only had 2 buttons and not 6. I figured the coin door was out of another machine. I don't think these 2 buttons are the "pressure sensitive" ones but I guess Ill find out soon.

Well, at least I don't feel like I'm destroying a classic, someone else did that for me.

If it was just me wanting it my wife would probably still be pissed, but I have a weapon against her, my son Jeremy (the 4 year old you see in the pics). If my wife put the smack down on the Mame Machine now, she would have to explain it to him, LOL.

He was to cute, as we were pulling out of the driveway from picking up the empty cabinet all he could say was how he was "so excited" that he would have his own arcade game when we got home. I think I broke his heart as I explained that daddy needed to fix it first.
