virtual pinball in Vista
« on: April 15, 2009, 09:06:37 am »
I'm afraid I already know the answer to this, but here it goes. Is there an issue(s) with virtual pinball in Vista? I installed it on my laptop with XP and it worked fine. I installed it in my cabinet which runs Vista ans I get no response out of the controls. The table loads up and everything looks fine, but the controls do not respond (default keyboard or remapped to my cp). I am using version 8.x.

I have had more issues with FE's, emulators, and plug ins because of Vista, it is getting old. The PC I bought for my MAME cabinet had Vista preinstalled. Had I known I would have so many problems, I would have downgraded to XP. Now I think it is too late. I don't want to risk all the work I have done. :burgerking:
You probably remember me from such films as `The Revenge of Abe Lincoln' and `The Wackiest Covered Wagon in the West'

First, you might try yo tun it as XP SP2 mode (right click on the file), see that help.

Another problem is if you have turned UAC off, because it might effect some emulators as well, when they trying to write to their own directory and not in a data directory.

UAC is not required at all on a cabinet basic at all, so that would not downgrade the security (personly I have allways that disabled).

Running VPinball.exe as admin in XP sp2 mode will get it running but there seems to be an issue with the right flipper button not working as the right shift.   It works fine as right ctrl but not as right shift.   You cannot assign right shift to it once you change it to something else.  Apparently this is a Vista issue that they are aware of but I have not seen a fix for it yet other then reassigning the key.    Makes it the pits if trying to cooridinate a fp vp setup.
