house of the dead overkill
« on: April 10, 2009, 09:53:38 am »
Just ordered the 'bang bang box set' which i only just heard about the other day:

http://www.mywii.com.au/GuideDetail.aspx?id=163

I ordered it JUST after i also ordered a nyko perfect shot. doh!

I got the box set for $98 aus which is pretty damn good i think. Im pretty excited about it (",) I think this is the game to get my housemate interested in mature games. She isnt impressed with madworld...

I think the term 'graphic novel' is getting overused nowadays. 30 pages is a comic book as far as i'm concerned. But hey, it's still cool...

Good game, but they just went overboard on the language. There's a point where it gets to be too much and they pass it quickly.

Oh man. the guns in the there would make great guns for my cab (once I steampunked em!)

I've been practicing on a few nerf guns I picked up a while back. I'll have to put together some pics and post them to that thread. They wouldn't hold a wiimote (well, not without some major mods), but I think they turned out pretty nice.

But those in that HOTD.. Heck looks like they've even already got molded in gilding (I had to hand paint all mine...)

Nuts to this, Sega needs to port HOTD4 for PS3 with Guncon 3 support.  :O

I've played through most of the levels a few times, and you're right just from a hardware perspective. There are spots where the Wii really chokes on the graphics and stutters. Parts of the game are so pitch black you can hardly tell whats going on, too.

Most game humor doesn't make me laugh, but there were a couple spots in the cutscenes that I found genuinely funny.
The profanity was overdone to the point where it lost its edge, but I didn't really care about that. They do make G too talkative as the game goes on.

Yes, i think the guilding looks molded in. they'd paint up pretty nicely, although of course its gonna wear off pretty quickly...

edit: i think woody should get house of the dead as well (",)

Those guns look awesome.  I'm glad you're getting both, though, cos the Nyko Perfect Shot supposedly feels and works much better than other gun attachments.  I'd be interested to see how the two compare in use.

FWIW, Nyko has a 3rd party Wiimote in the works that uses all electrical switches, so the attachments for that should theoretically be much better.  The trigger on the gun attachment doesn't have to physically pull the trigger on the Wiimote.  It just sends the proper signal to the Wiimote electronically.

Teh WiiMote still just doesn't suit my light gun tastes.  There's the downside of it can only SORTA look like a gun and has the limitations that it MUST include the WiiMote reguardless of the shell.

When I play Point Blank on PSX using my Namco Guncon, I feel a lot more like I'm at the arcade then I ever did playing any rail shooter on Wii.

...Maybe that's why I own six original Guncons...

Never thought about how durable it is. Wouldn't hurt to take a peek at Bare Metal Foil.

For something that might be a bit more durable, you can go with the old standby of using aluminum foil with gold leaf glue FineScale Modeling Forum thread.

It wouldn't be difficult.  The guts of a WiiMote is basicly just a single long rectangular circut board with a CCD camera at the front.  Since it's alos wireless it wouldnt' be terribly difficult to hack a WiiMote into an entirely different shell.  Any light gun shell with sufficent interior space could cut it.  You'd need to find a way to give it a replacable power source, adding a battery case or something and also sufficently wire enough buttons to microswitches to allow proport operation in the Wii.  I imagine the menus of most rail shooter games expect more than the B button.

The Guncon 2 on the exterior at least would have enough buttons on the shell, including a D-Pad.  Though I dunno if you'd fit it all well and manage to reliably mount all the new microswitches.

Ok, what can i say about the guns? They are pretty frikkin big! Nice quality item, sturdy. Problem i find is that i'm a 'hold your arm out and shoot' type guy. Thats how i do it in the arcades. But the arcades have that big cord sort of balancing it out a bit. And these guns are quite big because the wiimote sticks quite far out, giving you quite a large moment. So you really need to use two hands. Many people do that anyway. I think the Nyko has the wiimote closer to the handle, thus less strain on your wrist. I'll compare when i get it in. But geez, these things sure look cool (",)

Looks like I'll be buying two copies of this - The Austrailian Bang Bang Box set and a US copy that will actually work in my machine. I need those guns something fierce....

not sure, but i think you can get the guns separately.

edit; ok, you can, but they arent gonna be cheap, because they are only released in UK and here:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Official-House-Dead-Overkill-Cannon/dp/B001O2S1QS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1239977984&sr=1-2

so your plan of getting the box set and another game disk might be the cheapest way...

Ok. Just got the Nyko Perfect Shot in. Bit of a difference in size, eh? This gives a fair idea of how much more moment the AMS has over the Nyko. My very un-scientific assessment so far is that the AMS is more accurate, but definitely feels heavier because of the length. The wiimote fits more snugly in the AMS, and you can leave the strap on. In the Nyko, there is a little play left and right, maybe 1.5mm. Might not matter too much though since we all know a wiimote isn't going to have the accuracy of an actual light gun. Seems like you have to take the strap off for the Nyko. The Nyko has a cool pass-through for the nunchuck, which could be handy for some games. And i definitely don't get as tired holding it. The AMS doesn't have a pass-through, but just a small hole in the back and a slot to fit a nunchuck cord in, which would shorten the cord considerably. But then if you need a nunchuck, just use a different gun...

The Nyko trigger is a bit firmer, which i like. The clip looks a little flimsy though, and i don't know why they went for orange. Would anyone REALLY think this is a real gun?

About the weight. I'm pretty weak in this regard. I get sore really easily. Most people will last longer than me using the same equipment. As an example, one round of Point Blank and i need a rest! Therefore the difference in weight might not be so noticeable with other people.

I don't know which one i prefer really. They both look cool. But one looks James Bond cool, and the other looks Dirty Harry cool (",)
