Custom Xbox 360 fightsticks
« on: April 06, 2009, 10:00:39 am »
Thanks in large part to a lot of info I got from these forums, I've gotten pretty far on my first custom joystick project. I'm building two sticks modeled pretty much on a style I saw from another member here - Somunny.

I'm just waiting for a buddy to finish the graphic for this one, otherwise, I'm pretty much done with the woodworking part. Now I'm working on the wiring, which has proven a bit tricky  :angry:

Thanks again for all the great information I've gotten here.

Are you planning on doing the wiring, then removing it when it's time to mount the overlay? I'd wait to start the wiring until after you mount the graphic, unless you absolutely must play with it before that  ;D

Oh, I'm currently just doing the wiring from the PCB to a terminal strip. Though I'll probably be tempted to try it out, I'll wait 'til I get the graphic in there. Would definitely be more of a pain to disconnect and rewire to the buttons/joystick.

Custom stick 2 box is completed. This one has a flat profile and is smaller than the first one I did by 2" on each side.

But I did have my first major miscalculation with this one. I have back and start buttons on the left and right side panels, respectively. When I first designed it, I had Sanwa parts in mind, which I changed part way through to Happ. I also moved the joystick location a couple times. Well... I didn't account for the bulk of the joystick base, which is, in essence, blocking the back button. I think I can fudge my way around it and still make it fully functional and look okay, too. Just a little more work for me and a little careful cutting and pasting :)

Me = dumbass sometimes  :banghead:

Looks good - do you have any pics of the wiring?

You don't want to see pics of the first one - it's a mess. Not the strength of my game, so to speak ;D

Still working on the wiring on the second one.

Sure I do!  As long as it works it doesn't matter what the inside looks like.  Those pics help others figure it out too!

Okay. I'll try to take some tonight. But I'll warn you - it's kind of a rat's nest in there.
