D9200 vs U3100
« on: June 30, 2003, 04:33:31 pm »
Hi,

I'm thinking about purchasing an arcade monitor, and I'm curious about the pros and cons between a Wells Gardner D9200 and U3100. Here's what I do know:

* the D9200 is slightly more expensive
* the D9200 is bigger (27" vs 19")
* the D9200 has a wider frequency range (?)
* the D9200 is 640x480 (VGA) capable
* the U3100 is 1024x768 (SVGA) capable

The D9200 sounds like the "cadillac" of arcade monitors, although the 640x480 maximum is a question for me. I plan on using an ATI Raedon card and I don't want to limit myself to MAME games, there are a lot of PC games that I want to be able to play too.

This also leads to the question: what are my limitations in regards to PC games with either of these monitors? Does the U3100 have an advantage here with SVGA, or maybe there are cases where a PC monitor is an absolute must?

TIA
Monte

The D9200 is capable of 800x600..  My suggestion:  if you're going to be playing a lot of PC games, get a monitor that is capable of higher resolutions (ie - get the cheaper monitor thats capable of higher resolutions.)  But keep in mind, that the U3100 is ONLY capable of VGA/SVGA, so if your also looking for an arcade authentic picture, the D9200 would be the way to go.

Now with cup beer holders!

The D2900 is sooo much bigger! *drools* If cost wan't an issue I would say go with the bigger one. Plus image is supposed to be more authentic. It's just the perfect monitor. I use a 19" SVGA right now, but it's now a Wells Gardner. It works well and all, but I really wish I had the larger one. (Got this one on sale for like $120, though, so I couldn't pass it up.)
