HANTAREX POLO 1 Turns on fine then goes blank
« on: March 26, 2009, 12:38:25 am »
I bought a NBA Showtime / Blitz 99 cabinet bare (no PCB or harddrive).  It came with the a 25" HANTAREX Polo 1 monitor and some other do dodads.  I bought an ArcadeVGA card and put it in my computer (only to find out it will not work with my standard LCD monitors so I couldn't load the drivers).  I made a VGA breakout cable according to the specs.  I then hooked it up the cabinet and turn it on.  It started to work great.  I saw the machine boot up into windows (XP) and then the screen went blank?  I turn off the cabinet and then back on and nothing.  I turn off the PC and then back on.  The screen came back on.  Went thought boot up then into windows and then blank again.  I then tried the DVI port via an adaptor and I get no picture no matter what I do.  :banghead:

Does anyone have any idea what to do?  Is it the card? The monitor seems fine (or is it?)

After doing some more research I may have found my answer.  Will see if works tonight.
Hopefully Tristan is right.  Seems correct after reading the all the posts.

Using Safe Mode (VGA Mode) is not really a fix, but should allow you to fix the issue. Chances are, the resolution or refresh rate are not compatible with the monitor. Go into VGA Mode as woody stated, then go manually change the video settings to ones that match the monitors abilities (try 640X480 60Hz, XP defaults to 800X600).

Well that half worked.  I can get into safe mode.  I video stays on.  So the card are monitor are fine.  I checked the video properties and it was set at 640 x 480 and 4 bit color.   I tried to save it so it would use that on boot up normally ( not really sure that will work).  I rebooted and now windows locks up at the windows screen.  This is a fresh install with nothing extra loaded.

I am assuming this is a resolution/MHZ issue.  How do I set this when I get it to load properly.
I can't keep the monitor on long enough.  My LCD will not display the using the card.  I have CRT I could try?

Any one have any ideas because I am running out of them.  ???

Guess I figured it out myself.  My newer dell monitor hates the arcadevga card.  My older dell monitor worked when I connected.  I could not load the drivers the normal way because windows XP would hang.  I then reloaded XP with no luck.  So I went into safe mode removed all ATI drivers, rebooted and then loaded the drivers and whola it works.  It even worked on the arcade monitor.

Now I have a new problem after some testing.  All the color, picture is great but the picture is shifted to left at least an inch.  I have no idea how to move it over.

Anyone on this one?
