ArcadeOS flipscreen/controls issue
« on: March 25, 2009, 07:29:50 pm »
I found this site almost 10 years ago, because a friend of mine bought an arcade cabinet with thousands of games on it.   I was in awe.
When he turned it on I saw ArcadeOS branded in the application, so later that night I did a search and it didn't take me long to find this site.

...anyway...

That friend just emailed me.  He now has a 5 year old and last weekend that 5 year old did something to screw up the game.  He said the left and right controls for both players are doing the opposite of how you move the sticks.  I’m assuming the whole screen is flipped around, but without seeing it I don't know and he couldn't elaborate.  He doesn't have any technical information on the software or computer, all he knows for sure is that after he turned it on he tested it and it worked so he locked the door on the cab that hides the computer and keyboard so his son only had access to the control panel.

So here's my question:
How can you flip the screen(or reverse the controls) by using just the inputs on the control panel?
It's a two player control panel with 6 buttons for each player.
Additional inputs are:
A Trackball, Escape, Enter and P (pause) button and a 1 and 2 player button with a coin button for each player.

We also figured out the hard way that if you press the 1 and 2 player buttons at the same time it acts like an escape button.

The guy who sold him the cabinet will be going over to his house to fix another game of his, so I told my friend, he should ask that guy if he could upgrade his MAME, but in the meantime I'm curious as to how this could have happened.

Thanks

there are button combinations that take the user to arcadeOS config menu

edit arcadeos.cfg and look at these settings:

(flipscreen problem)

Code: [Select]
#flip screen in X
flipx=0

#flip screen in Y
flipy=0

Code: [Select]
#Cocktail Mode (0=no , 1=yes) - moving up/down/left/right
#swaps AOS control between players and flips screen
cocktailmode=0

mame can be upgraded, along with the game roms but you may need to replace arcadeos as well. i remember arcadeos not functioning well with versions 0.9x and later.
