So rather than swap a 7100 chassis into the 25k7197, I ended up getting a WG 25k5108 for free!  The previous owner gave me a the Isloation Transformer too.  Obviously the MK's WG 25K7197 had a transformer as well but are they compatible with each other?  IN other words is the 7197 transformer the same as the 5108???  Does that mean that the 5108 is plug and play with the MK machine? 

Also, (there's always an also) the power hookups accept different harnesses.  I don't know which wire are which.  I really need a multimeter.

So I can easily swap the harnesses but which wires go where?



Should I just match the green white and black from the old monitor to the new?

I think that's a U5000.  It's standard/medium res switchable. And it doesn't require an iso transformer. 

Isolation transformers are pretty standard, as long as they're wound 1:1.  You wouldn't want to use a 1:2 (obviously) or a 110:100 (like you would for a Sanyo EZ).

I think you'll have much better luck with the other chassis, assuming it's a working chassis.

I missed out on the other chassis and got this monitor for free so I want to give it a shot.  Would it be problematic to hook it up with a transformer?  What happens if I swap the hot and the common by mistake?

You can't hurt a monitor that doesn't require an isolation transformer by using one.

What happened to your old chassis?

Center pin is ground. (GREEN)
Outer two pins are AC. (Black/White and Purple/Purple w/stripe)

All hooked up and looking beautiful!  I just matched the colors from the old monitor out with the new line in, like Kevin said.  Sorry Ken, no fireworks, just a fierce 2 on 2, NBA JAM style

A U5000 is dual resolution and uses a different yoke than a k7000. If not now, probably later the yoke and the chassis will burn up due to incompatible yoke.

The U5000 was very trouble prone and was quickly discontinued. It needs three different "service kits" (available to purchase from Wells-Gardner parts dept) in order to make the chassis reliable.

That was the gist I got too, otherwise I would definitely not recommend swapping between the two.
And I agree, U5000.... better be prepared to learn monitor repairs.

I also concur that the K7000 is probably easily fixed.

from a servicers standpoint .
 we LIKE a chassis series with common problems.  RCA had ( has !! ) several chassis with easily correctable
issues.
in the "good ol' days", it wasn't unusual to do several sets in a row with the same issues.
thus, no mental strain to fix   

game monitors are quite similar in construction/function.
 they are NOT mystical mystery devices requiring multiple phd's to comprehend ....

Sorry for the confusion guys.  I did in fact get a complete U5000.  It's all hooked up and looking pretty good.  Now that my machine is all back up and running I have the luxury of taking my time in diagnosing and fixing the 7197.  Once that's done I plan on just holding on the U5000 as a spare in case I need it again to hold me over if something else happens to my other machines. 

I do want to thank every one for their useful comments and support.  I'm learning alot!
