Front ends and conflicts with Daphne
« on: March 23, 2009, 04:16:31 pm »
I asked the Daphne folk on this, and it seems the issue is easily solvable but isn't being solved:

It is easy solvable, but its one of the emulator which take a bit longer time to get work property in some Fe's. And if there is a problem, its more a Fe's fault and not the Daphne fault, which nicely can been invoked a Daphne game directly from a frontend, but just require more commandline than Else wise normal.

The major problem is really the framefiles which should been named the same as roms files to been run propenty.

If the FE doesn't support commandline or editable commandline files, it a FE issue and should ask author of that to get it running. Its not a Daphne fault.

In MultiFE, it mostly out of the box and is choiceable to run it with 640x480 or 640x400 without edit the profile as it do that nowand also I created a NMS file as well (title, year and company info). I was simply guess it these resolutions most would use with Daphne anyway.

A more problem emulator is Zinc, due it use a number based to launch the game. It not really usable without useing costume created files. In MultiFE I choiced to create a config utilty for the whole emulatoer (like ZincFe, but more cabfreindly), which can launch the games as well using rom names.

Decade Old Work: MultiFE, ArcadeMusicBox
Today Works: Various Spectrum Next games from Rusty Pixels and html5 games.

In Atomic, i have a Dictionnary file  , and if you tick the option to use it , Atomic will search the rom file you selected in the dictionnary and took the corresponding value and use it in command line instead of the romname.
It is generic and can work for all emulattors that would need a "mapping".

Concerning Daphnee, it is usable with most of Front End i now with a little configuration effort.
Therefore i will see if i can make it easier in the next version of Atomic. I have to study Daphnee!

To be fair, the current configuration method of Atomic has me confused, so I haven't gotten it up and running, but the last time (perhaps a year ago) I tried, I don't think I got Daphne running. Or maybe I did using TOK's plug-in pack, but then for the life of me I couldn't exit that game list, and it started on that screen.

In the Ultimate Distribution of Atomic, Daphnee comes already configured (with 115 others emulators).

I know ladite is preparing packs where you can install each module separatly with having to install the whole 115 if you use only 3 or 4 !!
