SF IV button layout

Just wondering why some arcade sticks coming out for Street Fighter 4 have 6 buttons, and some have 8... I've always been more of a Mortal Kombat player (never played any of the Street Fighters), but I bought SF4 for XBOX 360 and still don't understand the button layout situation.

Everything in Street Fighter is done through 6 buttons.

Light, Medium & Heavy Punch
Light, Medium & Heavy Kick

The extra 2 buttons are either the triggers or bumpers, and they mappable to be various shortcuts such as having all 3 punch buttons in 1.

It allows you to have just the one button to press for Super or Ultra moves.
