newbie. mala and mame32 don't work together
« on: March 22, 2009, 03:10:58 pm »
I can run mame32(ver.66) just fine on my system.  I have set up Mala(ver1.06) to use mame32 and it won't run mame32. I thought I have everything set right.
This is what I can do. it loads mala upon starting windows 98. I like that. It shows the mame32 and it's games. but when I click on the game I want to ply it does NOTHING!..... I don't like that.

What am I doing wrong? what other info do you need to help me figure this out?

Please help me.

Why are you having mala launch mame32's UI rather than launching a game directly? I don't know if versions of mame32 that are that old can launch straight to a game like recent versions can, but it sounds like you need to decide whether you're going to use mame32 to launch games (if you're just playing on a regular computer) or mala (if you're playing in a cab).

I want to use this in a cab. I picked mame32 because it had a. .exe and i could run it.  I don't feel like compiling a mame program. That is why i picked it.

Thank you for that info. It does help me. I will look for a newer version of mame to use and not mame 32.

thanks

You can download already compiled versions of the command line mame from mamedev.org. That's probably the best way to go, but with newer versions of mameui (it's called mameui now, not mame32) you can launch games just like you would with the command line mame, and the UI is bypassed. So whichever way you end up going, you don't need to compile if you don't want to.

If you WANT to compile, use MameCompiler, made by headkaze. Search this forum for the MameCompiler thread. It makes compiling trivial.

Yeah, Mame Compiler is definitely the way to go. I never thought I would be the kind of guy that would attempt compiling my own version of MAME, but after spending a very short hour with Headkaze's program, I'm the very happy owner of nag free, 'loading' free, high score supported gaming.

Me likey.  :applaud:
Man, will my cab EVER be finished?
