2:1 scale cabinet (built in 2 days!)
« on: June 29, 2003, 03:00:45 am »
Just finished laminating my half scale mini cab. I'm really impressed with it. It just needs a few finishing touches (t-molding, side art, marquee, control panel art and a bezel)

I can't wait to get the hardware installed!

I took this pic next to the car to show the scale.
More pics at http://minimame.com.

Why did you do that? Just cuz? Or is it for lil kids or what? Sounds like fun project. Did you use a 13" screen?

Couple of reasons.  Primarily, yes I'm building one for my kids.  They love playing Donkey Kong and Burger Time.

The second one I'm building is to take and keep in my office. Its nice that it doesn't take up any room and everyone thinks it just so cute!

Great looking mini cab.   How is it played by adults?  Do they sit on the floor or do you plan to have it on a table in your office?

An adult can play it seated in a regular chair.  The controls come up to the top of your knees while seated.  I will have a small chair parked in front of it in my office.

Where did you get that laminate? Man at home depot I can only find patterns and black.

Thanks!

I got the laminate from Home Depot.  Its Wilsonart Merigold.  $1.61 sq. ft.  Lowes carries it too.

This cab took one 4x8 sheet with some leftover.

I would have tried apeing a Japanese sit down cabinet myself. You wouldn't have had to compromise on monitor size so much.

I think the mini cabinet is a lot more attractive than those sit-down cabinets....

For kid games, I've always preferred the look of those Moppet cabinets. Thanks though, you gave me a great idea for a x-mas present for my kids :) They always want to play on dad's machine.

Now the hard part. How do you build it without them knowing about it? It's kind of hard to hide.
