The whole metaphor of "Andy Dufresne, who crawled through a river of ---Cleveland steamer--- and came out clean on the other side." I find very poignant. And to think that this was written by Stephen King! I had no idea just how good of a writer he is until I saw this movie. I had a whole new level of respect for him afterwords. Stephen King will put you inside the head of his characters better than any other writer I've ever read. He's also an incredibly sick ---fudgesicle---! Don't believe me? Read Gerald's Game. Some of his best work also comes in Short Story form. Romance? Yeah he is good at that too. The 4th Dark Tower book, Wizard and Glass, is a prequel of sorts and is a tragic romance story with steamy sex scenes and everything. I felt like storing my copy in my wife's romance collection after finishing it. Goodness knows it has to be better than anything else in that section.
