Balancing multiple video inputs?
« on: June 28, 2003, 07:53:29 pm »
Hey,

I'm in the process of wiring my cabinet for both the PC and the Dreamcast.  Everything is set up and working well, but I've run into an issue with the video levels on the two devices being different.

I have my monitor adjusted for an ArcadeVGA board running through a JPAC.  When I switch over to the Dreamcast, the image is noticeably dimmer.  Whites are kind of light gray and my blacks are a bit gray too.  Overall the image is low-contrast and requires adjustment of both brightness and RGB drive levels to correct.

However, when I amplify the Dreamcast signal (using the JPAC) the image is much too bright.

Is there a way I can amplify the signal, then run the RGB channels through potentiometers to drop the levels down again to "match" or "balance" the levels to the ArcadeVGA/JPAC combo?

I don't want to have to adjust the monitor everytime I switch, as I plan to make it switchable externally and need to be able to keep the cabinet locked up.

Any suggestions on how to do this?  Can I use the Potentiometer method, and if so about how much resistance is necessary?  Or is there another way to do this?

Thanks in advance,

P.
