Well you can use the balance board without the Wii too. Like a lame sort of step aerobics :)

You can also get a Stoeptegel from the street and use that as a balanceboard. If you keep doing aerobics on that, you might consider the wii as you keep doing the exercises.

Well it's a lame joke I guess, but do you know step aerobics? You step on and off a tiny bench. You don't need a Wii for that :) Actually it's one of the Wii fit games too.

There is a program that lets you play electrical drums on a PC with the Rockband drum set, and some people are using the Wiimote on their PCs.

It’s only a matter of time before some nut-job on this website creates a Mame cab with two balance boards for controller.

I've looked at Wii Fit a few times but I haven't picked it up? Any opinions on it to sway me?

I guess it depends what you want or expect from it.

To be honest I was a bit disappointed in the balance board, but mostly about it's use in games. Using the balance board in games is just not my thing. I had high hopes for Shaun White Snowboarding (it got great reviews). Indeed it's a nice game, but using my body as a joystick just doesn't work well for me. The idea is probably that it makes the game more realistic, but hanging back on a make believe snowboard without the actual forces working on you just isn't "natural" at all. It can be fun for a while though. Especially when played with friends, but then you need to calibrate the board everytime when you switch (if there is a substantial weight difference).

The Wii fit program itself works fine. The exercises are ok and it's nice how the "personal trainer" keeps track of what you're doing. If you want to lose weight it's great that it graphs your weight and BMI and keeps track of the goals you set. The only thing that really annoys me is that you need to press the "A" button a million times while playing Wii fit. Not just that you need to press the button so often, but also that you don't generally have the Wiimote in hand during excercises (why not tap a foot or something?). Also, moving my table away to make room for "Wii fitting" is starting to show marks on the floor.

You can use it on your PC, so you in theory do not need a Wii to use it :P
